Kassima: "You know you're truly drunk when you find yourself trying to play the Thunderbolt Wing Fight Song on the musical hats."
Note: This song is a modification of the first Thunderbolt Wing Fight Song, which was written by F'hlan and Melora. It, in turn, is based on Tom Lehrer's 'It Makes a Fellow Proud To Be a Soldier.' Credits go to all three of those folk for providing the basis for this newer version. The Wingsecond mentioned herein is Kassima; the Wingleader, of course, is P'tran.
The hearts of all the members of our wing must swell with pride For the folk of Pern, the cream with which they're flying side-by-side! For the clutchings and the Hatchings and the mating flights we share, And the quaint and curious shoulderknots we're called upon to wear! When she Impressed, Melina swore to fight for you and me; She wants to flame and burn and char for Pern's prosperity! With Rhonneth brown, she'll gladly bear The risks of flaming Thread mid-air! It makes a lady proud to be a rider! When J'lyn was brewing wine at Vintner Hall, he made the grade; He's real rider material, and he was glad to trade His mead and whiskey, ale and beer For the vintages we've got here! It makes a fellow proud to be a rider! When N'kshar completed Weyrling training, he Was a rider through and through, so we did judge; Its effects were so well-rooted, that the next day he saluted A green fire-lizard, his Azeth, and a drudge! Now, Cerilla was Holdbred stock, it used to be quite clear; To see her now, you'd never know she'd lived outside the Weyr. She thinks brownriding's just the thing, Because she finds it "broadening!" It makes a lady proud to be a rider! J'lor ignored his Teaching Songs, and slept through every drill; He can't distinguish rope from Thread, and maybe never will. But he'll help us win in all the Games, 'Cause whatever he sees fall, he flames! It makes a fellow proud to be a rider! Pierron has no taste at all when it comes to good klah; His brew is the worst-tasting glop anyone ever saw. But we'll still savor meals just fine; We'll wash 'em down with Benden wine! Which makes you very proud to be a rider! Our Wingsecond is quite an eccentric type; Dreamed of dragons as a lass, or so I'd guess. It's said that no one has yet Found something on which she won't bet, Which is why she's such a monetary mess! Our Wingleader has a handicap to cope with, sad to say; Whene'er he tries to find a knot, it takes about a day! And when he does, we'll bet a mint It'll be rife with pocket lint! It makes a fellow proud to be, When in my youth I vowed to be-- Impression makes you proud to be a ri-i-i-i-der! ---Modified by Kassima
