Lullaby

Note: An original, lovely Pernese song, written by Harper Thamon.

Lullaby

Dragons sleep inside their weyrs,
Beside their riders. Safe from care
And duty for the length of night,
Flying far with dawn's first light.

Shipfish sleep while swimming deep
In cold, dark waters of the sea.
Above the waves, beyond the sky,
The silent, shining stars sail by.

Runners sleep in stables warm,
Under stone to keep from harm.
With straps and saddles stored away,
Their work awaits the coming day.

Across all Pern in Hall and Hold,
In Weyr above, in caves below;
The people sleep and sleeping, dream,
While moonlight falls and starlight gleams.

Of all the dragons, people, beasts:
Here rests a child, of all asleep.
Dear to my heart, held in my arms,
Dream safe and sound until the dawn.
