Oswyn's Clothes

O'wyn: "Wait, wait, I'm not the one who brought olive and magenta and hot pink into this!"

Note: This was written as a gift of sorts (or act of evil, you be the judge) for Ozy; I'd been wanting to find a song I could filk about him, and then this idea came to me. Amazingly, he didn't throw anything at me or chase after me with a chainsaw when I showed the result to him! Isn't he a wonderful sport? Credits go to the producers of and songwriters for the musical 'Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat,' the original source for the song--'Joseph's Coat'--that I've parodied here.

Oswyn's Clothes

Oswyn was son to a Trader and his wife;
He thought he loved the nomadic Jabari life;
He juggled balls, took tumbling falls,
And walked ropes without fear.

But when he came of age, he had to go away;
Tradition said that for one Turn, he had to stay
Far from his kin, so they sent him
To live in Southern Weyr.

There he worked at making quilts,
But he had a nagging guilt:
He feared it did not truly contribute,
In a hot Weyr, blankets to distribute.
Thinking through the matter fast,
He enrolled in Aithne's class,
And Ozy was soon a Dragonhealer;
From Trader boy to full Dragonhealer,
And his dreams of being useful had come true!

But still he missed the lifestyle of his Trader clan.
To ease the loss of all their color, he'd a plan:
Oswyn began to buy bright clothes,
So many colored clothes to wear!

Ozy's clothes were elegant; the cuts were fine.
The tasteful styles were the ultimate in good design.
But that's not why they caught the eye--
Oh, how the colors glared!

And when Ozy tried them on,
He knew his dowdy days were gone!
Such dazzling clothes with so many colors!
How he loved his clothes of many colors!
So the eye would get no rest,
He even wore a vivid vest!
Such stunning clothes with so many colors.
How he loved his clothes of many colors.
They were red and yellow and green and brown and blue!

Other Weyrfolk weren't all pleased with what they saw;
They had always liked Oswyn just fine before,
But now eyes bled from his bright threads--
Yet still they had to stare!

And when Oswyn graced the scene,
Southerners turned a shade of green;
His astounding clothing was so frightful,
But Ozy thought it was all delightful!

Ozy and Female Ensemble:
I look handsome, I look smart!
I am a walking work of art!
Such dazzling clothes with so many colors!
How I love my clothes of many colors!
They are red, and yellow, and green, and brown,
And scarlet, and black, and ocher, and peach,
And ruby, and olive, and violet, and fawn,
And lilac, and gold, and berry, and mauve,
And cream, and crimson, and silver, and rose,
And azure, and citron, and russet, and grey,
And purple, and white, and pink, and orange,
And red, and yellow, and green, and brown,
And scarlet, and black, and ocher, and peach,
And ruby, and olive, and violet, and fawn,
And lilac, and gold, and berry, and mauve,
And cream, and crimson, and silver, and rose,
And azure, and citron, and russet, and grey,
And purple, and white, and pink, and orange,
And blue!
