Friends Like We

Kassima: "It all began with a mark. A mark that Kindre lost to Mart in a game of Pin-the-Tail, to be precise-- that's when he first claimed it was skill, rather than luck, that had allowed him to triumph. Kin and I being the vindictive and obsessive sorts that we are, we made a promise to each other to get that mark back *and* to prove that Mart was wrong about his 'skill.' The thing I can't understand is, why does the luck he scorns favor him so bloody much?!?"

Well, Mart, of all the marks we've lost to you,
The Harpers could each tell a thousand tales.
But now you're out of luck! Ranged against you,
We've got a vendetta that never fails!
We've got obsession in our corner now--
On this one track, our minds are stuck.
We've got a quest! A goal! And that thing is
To prove that skill is nothing against luck!

So we'll say, "Mr. Martigan sir,
What will the challenge be?
Let us make our wagers, jot them down--

Who shall triumph this time?
Well, we'll just wait and see!
Set the stakes up as high as you want;

Yessir, we pride ourselves on winning!
On proving good luck's the best!
Up against skill, you know we will
Insist on putting it to the test!
If we lose, we will pay,
But I can guarantee:
We're in the mood to beat you, dude!

We'll wager until our mark-pouch is flat!
Can your 'skill' beat us? We have no fear!

And hopefully 'fore our marks disappear!

You've got us determined to vanquish you,
And to see all your skill claims overthrown!
We've got a powerful urge to trounce you, Mart!
So, what's the game? We really want to know!
We're eager for the competing to start--
Today we're both going to win marks--that's so, we know!
