Kassima: "If you ever want to lose weight, just come down to Benden Weyr. Bring a kilt. Then, chase K'nan around the Bowl with it, threatening to make him wear the thing--I guarantee that you'll burn off plenty of pounds that way."
Though there be many songs of joy and of loss, And of sorrow, of fighting, and guilt, Still, there's never yet been such a song As this one of K'nan and his kilt! Three riders from Benden went to Boll one eve, With an Apprentice Dragonhealer too. They decided to look through the Weavercraft's Tent, Searching for something quite new. "K'nan," said Aphrael, rider of blue Prefeth, "Has no clothes meant for Gathering wear. We must all seek some out, for him, for today-- For his current garb I cannot bear!" Aph and Kassima, and then Davidon, Went to look for appropriate gear; They weren't seeming to run across any luck, Till Kassima said, "Ah, see here!" "This kilt," said the greenrider, eyes all ashine, "Is perfectly fitting, y'know. 'Twill be great for him to wear in this hot weather-- So long as the wind does nay blow!" Laughing, the duo were quickly agreed, Though Davidon nervous became. 'Twas quite apparent for the Bendenite lad, That *his* fate might turn out the same! The instant K'nan walked into that great tent, Kassi and Aph cried, "Oh, K'nan! Look at this kilt; wonderous, it is-- Skirts are perfect for a manly man!" The greenrider failed to escape from the pair; He was not so quick from them to run. So they pleaded, cajoled, and finally convinced him That trying a kilt might be fun! Sayla and Meli had since joined them there, And Davidon, pinned by their wiles, Soon found himself changing then into a kilt, Cornered by those womenly guiles. It seemed all of Benden Weyr'd gathered that day Inside of the Weavercraft's place-- And so, when Aph tugged the dressing curtain down, They got to see K'nan's red face. Spoken: And that's not all, either.... And as if all that weren't punishment enough, Prefeth was a curious kind; He wanted to see K'nan model his kilt, So he could some charm in it find. Kassi and Aph exchanged marks for the kilt, And told K'nan he could not refuse. So, the greenrider headed back outside-- After all, what had he left to lose? Prefeth indeed liked K'nan's new clothes, But 'twas Lysseth, Kassima's young green, Who thought that she'd like to know what would happen If more of K'nan could be seen. An energetic *whuffle* was what Lyss gave As she peered at K'nan with interest. And this had the effect of blowing his kilt up, To show--you can imagine, I guess. Lysseth, Prefeth, and indeed Veyath too Were delighted by what they now saw! How could a rider turn such a bright shade Of red, like the leaves in the fall? For the rest of the day, K'nan muttered and swore That Kassima and Aph would soon pay. They'd had their fun, but would it be worth it? Of course! So all went on their way. So though this is no song of joy or of loss, Nor of sorrow, nor fighting, nor guilt, It's still an exceptional, strange sort of song, Is this song of K'nan and his kilt! ---Written by Kassima
