Cyrath and Tivuketh's HatchingPublic announcement: Sarai announces "At long last, gold Cyrath and brown Tivuketh's eggs are about to hatch on Igen's sands. If that is, the silly gold isn't joking with this bout of humming! Come to Igen and watch last clutch of the 26th Turn (as well as being NC's 75th clutch ever!) hatch in the desert. Directions : +go igenw-bowl, wtf, hg (if you're flying, it's two levels down and the ledges)" Janine smiles and wishes to thank Igen for being so wonderful! Kestra clutches her robe in white-knuckled hands, fumbling nervously as she pulls it on. J'on strides in from the hallway. J'on has arrived. Raina startels as she tryes to find her robe "Shards! where is it!" Myklan makes his way rather quickly to his cot, pulls his press from beneath it, gets a tin out of the way, and produces his robe in quick succession. Tika dives into her robe. "They're humming!" she calls happily, stating the VERY obvious. Braedon nervously unfolds the white robe and places it gently on his cot. He pulls out a length of brown cord and ties his hair back in a runner's tail. J'on comes in at a dead run. "It's for real! Everyone, robes and sandals!" Kestra says "Really? And here I was just trying the robe on to see how it looked...shards, where ARE those sandals!?" Laila sits on the floor, cross-legged under her robe. Her hands are folded in her lap, and for once, the air of utter calm is off. She's obviously nervous. Malan gets out his robe and begins putting it on. Myklan pulls out not one, but two...one is tossed on the cot, and the other is grabbed up even as he shucks out of his usual clothing. The quiet giant from Telgar says nothing as he struggles to get dressed. Tristram blinks, is still suddenly, then reacts. He dives under his cot to pull his robe out, nervously fumbling it on over his head. Bailey isn't rushing. That's probably because she's in a stupor. She opens her press, extracts her robe, closes the press, slides it back beneath her bed. Next, she unfolds her robe, setting it down on her cot as Kestra's words remind her to pull out her sandals. Which are, of course, right where they should be. Talyon stumbles in, as white as the robe his holding. "... This humming... Now?" is all that ha can utter. Oh, no. Please, not now. "I'm not ready!" he gasps, panicking. Kestra finds one sandal and yanks it on, then hunts for the other. Braedon quickly pulls the robe on and begins lacing his sandals. Raina grabs her robes, pulling it over her blouse, nope, wrong! she pulls the blouse off first then the robe. Macami rushes into the barracks, having on her new dress, all hysterics. "Quick quick QUICK! It's time, it's finally time." Her eyes would be red-tinged, she sounds upset like that. Siara hurries in, tugging her gown over her head, blocking her smiling face for a moment,"This is it," she says unecessarily to Macami and J'on. Feriam calmly pulls his his white candidate robe over and slips into the sandals. Finally a smile crosses his face "Indeed, they are humming! Never heard that before" Lyria leans against the wall and looks green. Janine hauls her press out and flings half the cothes out on the floor before she rememebrs putting her robe on the cot. "Shard it all!" She snatches it up and quickly strips. Leya sits dazed on her cot, her feet tapping nervously on the floor. Macami's shout startles her and she scrambles to her feet. Jaina grabs her sandles, lacing thime up tightly. then sighs, taking a few deep breaths. Celie has disconnected. K'tel is much more calm than the coordinators. He looks almost cheerful, in fact, as he watches the preparations. Malan fastens his sandals and stands, ready. J'on says "It's under control, Cami." He's such a bad liar, running his hand through his hair. "Linneth is humming like she's about to pop." Benkin attempts to pull his robe over his head and it takes quite some time, the sleeve openings similar to the neck in his rush to be on time with the other candidates. Laila stands, slowly, walking over to Bailey. "It'll be okay. Everyone. It'll be _fine_." Sarai walks in much more calmly, fussing with her dress. "At LAST...Shells." Macami whines at Siara, pulling at her dress. "Indeed. Oh shards, I feel I will faint!" Tika fumbles around. "Where are my boots!! Where are they?? She finds one, and hops around as she pulls it on, then finds the other one, ditting with it. Myklan sits down long enough to wind his sandals onto his feet, then tugs the thong out of his hair, only to quickly rebind it. Braedon's hands tremble as he finishes lacing his sandals and he stands. He tries to smile, but it looks more like a grimace. Kestra hahs! as she finds her other sandal and pulls it on. J'on says "Sandals, Tika, not boots." Lyria smiles, "Wow. You look great, Sarai." Myklan looks up, once he's settled, and grins at Macami. Celie has connected. Siara smiles at Macami, "Remember when we all held hands on the sands?" She turns to look at the Candidates, "Do you want me to help them at all?" Tristram looks up to smile at Laila and Bailey, trying to be brave, but his lips tremble as he ducks his head to fasten his sandals. Raina breaths in then out, in, then out and moves over to Malan "All set?" K'tel grins over at Sarai, agreeing with Lyria, "Very nice." Katany comes in, apparently not in a hurry, running a hand through her hair. "For once I remembered to lay my dress out." Feriam overwatches the commotion the grins as he spots Raina and winks at her. Tika punds her feet into the ground, setting her shoes in place, she runs her hands through her hair, grinning widely. Janine slips her new sandals on and then rolls her runnertail into a bun and pins it in place. Turning to Malan and Raina, "How do I look?" she asks. Sarai makes a face at Lyria, "I only own one dress. Macami said I had to dress up, but I'll be hatched if I wear just sandles on my feet." She looks at her flying boots and grins. Celie strides in behind K'tel, smoothing out the skirts of her new dress. "Ah...controlled chaos. How I love a Hatching..." Despite J'on and Macami's urgings, Bailey's have a real tough time getting out of slow motion. Laila's comment gets a distracted nod as Bailey finally sheds her clothes and pulls her robe on overhead. Kestra looks around to see if anyone needs help... Myklan grins to no one in particular, "Happy Turnover." Braedon smiles encouragingly at Laila, and brushes a lock of hair back in place. Malan smiles at Janine, "You look fine, of course. Lyria smiles, "They look good too." J'on is just going as he is, Faranth forgive him, he has other things to worry about. Lucky he put clean clothes on after drills, he just looks plain, not messy. "All right! Those of you dressed, foot of your cots!" Laila smiles, very slightly at Braedon, then Janine and Raina. Macami smiles reassuringly at Myklan, though she still looks pretty much confused herself. "I know, Tivu!" She nods to Siara, then tries to bring some order to the candidates as Katany comes in. "Come on, folks, get ready! You had enough time to prepare for this event." Raina turns to look at Janine "Your robe is great! Lyria says happily, "And Macklin had all the food all ready. I adore that man." Sarai walks up to Lyria, getting her head bck to now, "Wow...You look good..." Someone's having second thoughts about the hatching. Tristram blinks at Myklan, "Turnover?" He snaps to attention, scrambling to the end of his cot. Kestra snags Bailey's sandals, carrying them over to the bemused girl. Talyon somehow manage to put his robe on. Sandals? Sandals too, though he'll later won't even remember much about this moment. And he just stands there, in a corner, breathing fast, and his eyes are as wide are that of a scared runner. Lyria looks down and then chuckles, "Oh, well, it's a good thing I had this 'cause I forgot to have anything made." Janine flashes a smile to Raina then moves to the foot of her cot. Myklan makes his way to the end of his cot, and nods at Tristram. "Yeah...didn't you notice the sweets at dinner?" Oh great. The eggs are hatching, and he's babbling about Turnover. Sarai chuckles, "Well that took a load off, huh, Lyria?" Raina starts to pace Laila moves to Talyon, picking up his sandals along the way. Tika bounces over to her cot, practicaly flying. Raina hmmms "Sweets, where?" Malan stands with Jnine and watches Raina pace. Bailey smiles tightly at Kestra, reaching out to accept them. "This is really happening now, isn't it?" she asks the violet-haired candidate. Siara murmurs quietly to Macami, before letting her do her job this last time, "You did a really great job." She slips away and over to J'on's side. Katany moves over to K'tel, tilting her chin up to look at him. Lyria nods. Then she says politely, "Evening Katany, K'tel." Oh yeah, good dress, manners. Tristram says "Oh, that's what they were for." Kestra nods. "It's happening...let's not miss it!" Kestra smiles nervously at Bailey, then heads over to the foot of her cot. K'tel smiles at Katany, "You look nice." He turns the smile to Lyria, "Evening, Lyria." Laila looks at Taylon. "It'll be fine. It waill all be okay. Come on. In front of your cot." Katany laughs. "So do you." Katany says "I am starting to think I should get a new dress, though." Katany says "Perhaps next time." Myklan sticks his hands behind his back, and rocks back and forth from heel to toe. Tika looks over at Talyon and sighs. She skips over to help him too. "Come on! It's our time!" Braedon stands at the foot of his cot. Sarai smiles at Katany, "I think it looks nice on you, We- Katany." Feriam rubs his hands nervously in appreciation of what lies ahead before placing himself in front of the cot. Macami opens her balled fist to reveal her whistle, looking down on it. She puts it to her lips and uses it, for the last time. "Those ready, stand in line at the exit in the back, which leads to the sands." She rushes over to Siara. "Here's your whistle. Thanks for giving it to me." Kestra says "Oh, do you have to phrase it that way, Tika? It sounds so final..." Laila offers Taylon a hand. Lyria looks over Katany's dress thoughtfully. Siara nods to Katany, K'tel and Lyria with perfect correctness, smiling, as she makes her way to J'on. "Everyone looks nice." Katany says "Thank you, Sarai. You like quite well." Kestra moves to the exit. K'tel nods to Katany, "I like that one. It's perfect." Seeing Talyon setteled, she skips back to her cot. Bailey slides her sandals on and stoops to buckle them. Talyon blinks at Laila. He shakes his head dizzily, and follows her. "It's... It's..." But he simply can't speak. He just send a desperate look at Laila and Tika. Oh, may all of it be over very fast. Tika skips back to her cot. Raina groans, and examines her robe a last time "Well, that's me" she moves to the back, waiting in ling. Tristram takes his place in line near Braedon, grinning excitedly at the boy. J'on moves to the exit, helping to line up candidates. "Shorest ones first..." Janine stands quietly at the foot of her cot, just her balled fists slowly thumping on her hips indicate her tension. Sarai looks down, "yeah, I'm glad I didn't grow any since Lyndra's wedding too." Which was the last time she wore this dress. Small closet. Myklan stands back out of the way. Looks like he'll be last in line. Kestra winds up close to the front, by Bailey and Tika. Lyria tells Sarai with a laugh, "I hope Jorana doesn't tear mine if we have to hold her down." Braedon follows the others, to line up at the exit, nervously smoothing the creases in his robe. Laila grabs Talyon's hand, and literally drags him to stand in line. "It's only walking, Tal." Celie drifts in to stand beside Sarai and the others, crossing her arms over her waist to watch and listen. "Its a nice dress, Sarai," she murmurs. Bailey moves over to join Kestra and Tika. Shorties, one and all. Feriam follows J'on's instructions and lines up with the queue of candidates Tika looks around. Shortest? Is she shortest? Malan stands by Raina, looking nervous. Macami walks to J'on. "Will you lead them out there? I feel to shaky to lead the way, honestly." Denara rushes in, late, and changes as fast as she can. The woman hops into line, not QUITE at the right point. K'tel grins at Celie, "You look nice too." A chuckle, "I do enjoy hatchings." J'on grins at Cami. "I'm on it. You bring up the rear." He starts organizing people in height order. Siara takes a quick, suspicious look at Denara's feet. Raina goes on tipy toes, trying to see out to the sands. Laila takes her place in line, amidst the boys, tall as she is. Myklan does indeed wind up at the very end of the line, his expression way off in the distance. Celie smiles, a bit wistfully. "Thank you. Did you bring plenty of handkerchiefs? Janine steps towards the back of the line. Feriam nods at Laila encouragingly. Katany says "Macami, J'on, are they ready?" Macami takes a relieved sigh, then walks over to stand with Sarai, looking at her anxiously. "It's about time," she murmurs, as if Sarai wouldn't know. Tika gives Bailey and Kestra a thumbs up sign. Braedon takes his place in the line, and smiles at his sister. J'on switches Dreana and Simora, keeping a weather eye on the group, then nods. "They are, Weyrwoman." K'tel blinks, "I brought two. Do you need one?" He starts patting various pockets. Talyon nods at Laila and whispers a few grateful words. Oh, if only he could pull himself together... Sarai counts heads. "Wow. I thnk I like it better from this end, Macami.." Calmly, Sarai pats Macami's arm. "There there." Macami turns around and nods. "Yes, Katany, J'on leads the way, I'll follow in the back!" Raina tries to pace in line, but can't so she weaves from one foot to the other. Laila gives Feriam a slight, tight smile. Kestra smiles, weakly. "If we're not now, we never will be," she murmurs. Feriam murmurs "Ready or not..." Raina smiles over to Feriam, giving him a playful wink. Laila nods to her brother, hands constantly moving. She murmurs a word of encouragement to Talyon. Tristram watches everyone else, but his hands clench and unclench nervously. Braedon chews his lower lip, and tries to smile at the same time. Janine looks around to lock the barracks and her friends forever in her memory. Benkin falls into line, a sour thumb amongst the likes of Bailey and Tika, his shoulders about in place with the top of their heads. Feriam looks up from his momentary hesitation to smile broadly at Raina and giving both her and Malan a thumbs up. Celie shakes her head. "I have one of my own...thanks." K'tel finally finds one. He pulls it out and offers it to Celie, "Have to keep one in case Katany needs it." He winks. Tika turns to find another face in the crowd; Talyon, she smiles and gives her thumbs up sign to him too. Kestra says "Good luck, everyone..." K'tel grins, "Even better." He replaces the handkerchief, "Ooh, we're about ready then." Bailey looks back at the taller people, obviously wishing to she could hide in amongst them. Spying Benkin (who could miss him?), she gives a thin-lipped smile. Celie chuckles at the Weyrleader. "Yes...she is emotional, isn't she?" Tristram mutters, "Luck," to those around him. Macami hisses. "I knew I forgot something. Handkerchiefs! I'll sure be bawling my eyes out!" Braedon says "Yeah, good luck. This has been really great." J'on twitches the curtain aside, looking out, then grins. "Mmmmmm. Good crowd." He glances at Katany and K'tel. Sarai pulls one out of her pocket, "Here, have mine, Cami..." Kestra gives Bailey's shoulder a quick squeeze, as much for her own reassurance as the younger girl's. Raina takes a look around the barracks, smiling a bit, then turns her face to the sands. Janine flashes a smile to Malan, behind her and then to Raina. "Ready, fellow threadkillers?" Katany nods to J'on. "Let us go, then." Laila, in a soft, clear voice, says, "No matter what..." Raina giggles and nods to Janine "Ready!" Malan grins at Janine, "As ready as we'll ever be." Tristram nods as he overhears Laila, "No matter what." Macami flashes a grateful smile at Sarai, which is quickly replaced by her anxious expression again. "Thank you." Talyon takes a hissing breath and closes his eyes. But upon reopening them, he catches Tika's glance. And smiles. Yes. Whatever happens now, he has to be strong. He manages a weak smile, and even winks at her. K'tel moves up next to Katany, "Here we go." Bailey turns forward again to give Kestra a resolute smile. Raina grins over to Janine "Find them undies Janine?" Sarai moves up to be by Katany and K'tel, looking faintly out of place. Malan laughs. Janine grins. "Yep.. I like purple!" J'on pulls aside the curtain and heads down. Braedon smiles faintly at Janine. J'on slips behind a tapestry. J'on has left. You say "We're always together. We did it together, and we're doing this together. Don't be afraid." Tika giggles, way too giddy. Celie falls into line behind the Weyrleaders and Sarai, soft shoes scuffing quietly on the floor. Malan grins, "Purple is nice. Kestra takes a deep breath and goes. Feriam hesitates a moment, taking a last glance at the barracks and steps through Macami gulps. "I feel all weak, Sarai, can I take your arm?" Igen Weyr Hatching Grounds - Sands(#1045RJQa$) Kestra steps out onto the sands and freezes for just a moment, staring wide-eyed at the crowds. The heat of the sands and the press of bodies get her moving again quickly enough, though. Cyrath watches the candidates and instantly moves to interpose herself between the candidates and her circle of eggs. The generally nice queen fusses as eggs rattle and roll behind her. J'on leads the procession of candidates onto the sands. He pauses to formally bow to sire and dam, then moves aside and lets the white-robed candidates pass. Raina steps out onto the sands, wincing as she does. Janine steps cautiously towards the gold and bronze dragons. She straightens her robe as best she can. Feriam eyes the assembly widely before walking purposefully after J'on and onto the sands. Tika doesn't even look at the stands. She bows to Cyrath and Tivu, then looks around for a hand to hold, suddenly VERY nervous. Sarai walks out and glares at Cyrath, "Sit down you..." Sarai sighs, Macami on her arm, and /looks/ at the gold until Cyrath sits back down and lets the candidates closer. Laila bows to both Tivuketh and Cyrath as she steps lowly and carefully, then begins moving along the wall. Katany stays near K'tel, away from the press of nervous Candidates, smiling. Leya steps out on the hots sands, feet automatically lifting higher as the heat penetrates the little sandles on her feet. A quick and graceful curtsy is executed for Cyrath and Tivuketh before she joins the other candidates. Kestra takes a few hesitant steps forward towards the watchful queen. She bows to Cyrath, then to Tivuketh. Malan moves forward, then bows formally to Cyrath. Raina moves out to the sands, bowing respectfully low to the dragons and their riders. Bailey steps onto the sands in amongst the other stature-challenged candidates, focusing on her first duty and obligation keeps her moving until she's out far enough that she can safely bow toward Cyrath and Tivuketh without blocking the entrance to the sands. However, once that duty is done, her eyes lift and see the stands. And grow very very wide. Myklan makes his way out, at the very tail-end of the line of Candidates, among the tallest and broadest of them. A moment of hesitation, as he puts his hand up against the heat and peers into the hatching cavern, then he brings up the very end of the forming semi-circle, sketching a bow to golden dam and brown sire. K'tel pauses to offer a hand to Katany with a smile. Celie drifts out behind the Weyrleaders, walking alone as she heads toward her place to stand. Malan then bows to Tivuketh stiffly. Janine bows to to Cyrath and Tivuketh then moves to the side. She waits for Raina and Malan. Raina moves slowly away, circling the eggs, taking a quick look up to the ledges and stands. Braedon steps out onto the sands, and bows deeply to Tivuketh and Cyrath. He quickly moves to join the other candidates. Tivuketh sits patiently enough, watching the candidates calmly. He warbles to his queen. Feriam files in next to a fellow candidate and bows to Cyrath and Tivuketh respectfully. Malan walks with Raina and Janine to join the circle around the eggs. Kestra finds Bailey's hand and gives it a squeeze. She smiles at the younger girl. "C'mon," Talyon blinks in the light. Is it because of this light that he looks so pale? Probably not, but who knows. He follows his comrades steadily, jaws clenched, not even looking at the bleachers. Nothing matters, now. Nothing but something wonderful but which he can't even name. He jumps as he suddenly remembers that there's something he /has/ to do, and he bows to Cyrath and Tivuketh, before heading for an empty spot in the circle of Candidates. Lyria looks uncomfortable as she walks carefully behind the last of the candidates. The headwoman stops a few feet away from the entrance and crosses her arms to observe. Laila moves to Bailey, taking her hand, then Tika's. Tristram steps out onto the sands, expression resolute and determined. He steps closer and bows formally first to Tivuketh, then to Cyrath as he steps closer to the mound of eggs. His nervousness is given away by the clenching and unclenching of his jaw. Macami clings to Sarai's arm like a dead weight, eyes open wide, as if she'd never stood on the sands before. Siara takes up her place quietly,at the edge of the sands, near the entrance to the weyrling barracks. Tika takes the offered hand with a grateful smile to its owner. Braedon looks at his Laila and moves to Tika's other side. He flashes her a reassuring grin. Janine offers a hand to Malan and the other to Tika. Malan takes Raina's and Janine's hands and faces the eggs. Bailey locks her fingers around Kestra's and Laila's as they're offered, finding strength in them and stumbling along to take her place with them among the semicircle around the eggs, earthy brown eyes still looking apprehensively up at the amount of surveillance. Feriam places himself into the circle of candidates next to Janine. His face is calm but his eyes betray his tension. Benkin gingerly steps across the sands, pays his respects to the dragons and leaders gathered upon the sands before a small jostle sends him towards the rest of the candidates. He stares at the unbreaking line of white then finally slips into an empty spot. Raina smiles warmly at Malan, sifting slowly from one foot to the other. Tika gives her free hand to Janine. Sarai looks back at Lyria as she leads Cami across thye sands. A hand is waggeled for Lyria to come with them. Sarai's other hand has lost feeling. Showy and Shimmering Blue-Green Egg gives a little twitch and rocks to one side. Laila, however calm she seems, is making a concerted effort to not look up, whatever she does. She gauges the expression on Bailey's face. Kestra takes her place at the end of the semicircle, face pale but composed. She can't keep from shifting from foot to foot, though. Myklan crosses his arms over his chest, not taking the hand of the Candiate next to him as they weren't offered, and seems to become set in his place, intent on waiting this out. Raina gasps softly, giving Malan a nudge "See that?" Malan smiles nervously back at Raina, ignoring the heat. Tristram steps closer to Benkin as the other boy moves into line, attempting an encouraging smile. Janine grins to Feriam and offers the free hand to Feriam. Then watches the eggs closly. "I saw it!" J'on glances up at the stands, the corners of his lips twitching. Then he looks over at Lyria for a heartbeat before turning his gaze back to the clutch. Malan looks at the eggs, then nods to Raina, "I saw something. Braedon smiles nervously and fidgets slightly. He cast a quick glance at the other candidates. Tristram mutters to Benkin, "... are..." Tika squeeks softly. "It moved!" Silver-Flecked Candidate Robe Egg rolls to the side, the remarkable red spot on the egg hidden by sand now. Talyon looks around. Sands. Hot sands. And Eggs. Ooh, didn't this one move? He whispers something to the Candidate next to him, Tika, but amid this turmoil, she probably won't hear, anyway. Raina nods "Isn't the blue green one your favorite? Showy and Shimmering Blue-Green Egg gives another, more decided twitch and begins to rock back and forth, building up speed. Malan nods, "Yeah, it is." Feriam gladly takes Janines free hand just as one of the eggs twitches on the sands and he squeezes Janis hand tight in apprehension. Laila blinks at the blue-green egg. She twitches slightly, eyes fixed on the silver-flecked on in short order. Benkin tugs on Tristram's sleeve, surreptitiously moving to form a second behind the small girls, laughing at Tristram's words. Raina nods "There look, it moved!..." she points to the egg. Kestra watches, eyes going from egg to egg as she tries to see everything at once. Which one will be first? Which one? Tika looks up at Talyon and grins, then looks back to the eggs. Feriam smiles over to Raina "It definetly moved..." Lyria tilts her head, not noticing Sarai's motion. Or at least pretending not to, since after a few moments she does gradually circle the activity along the perimeter and end up nearer the junior weyrwoman. Malan's eyes lock onto the eggs now, waiting and watching. Laila glances at Braedon, eyes wide. Silver-Flecked Candidate Robe Egg rolls slowly to the other side, so the red spot is on top, the silver specks on the egg glistening. Peaceful calmness, and then it starts jerking! K'tel glances up at the stands and the ledges then back at the eggs. He smiles to himself, looking quite cheerful. Tristram resists the tugging at first, then reluctantly moves back with Benkin. His gaze flashes between the rocking eggs and the antics of his fellow Candidates, as if he can't decide which is more interesting. The eggs! Vaguely Milked-Bovine Egg vibrates slightly, sand grains falling from the shell. You might miss it if you aren't looking right at it. Showy and Shimmering Blue-Green Egg tips back and forth with increasing urgency, beginning to deepen the impression in the sands that surrounds it. Braedon tries to offer Laila a smile. Raina moves a bit over, to avoide the twitching eggs.. The eggs are moving, and soon there will be hatchlings to watch for, and so Bailey manages to tear her gaze from those watching this event, smiling rigidly back at Tristram and Benkin before darting gaze back to the eggs, trying to ferret out which will display its contents first. Katany quietly slides her hand into K'tel's, going up a little on her toes in an attempt to see everything at once. Janine holds her breath as the blue-green egg moves. She grips both men's hands hard and tenses. Then another egg begins to move. Tika happens to be looking at her favorite egg; the milky one. "Look! It moved too!" Feriam stands unmoving with eyes transfixed on the eggs in front of him. Showy and Shimmering Blue-Green Egg begins to bounce agitatedly, rolling back and forth rapidly. Leya shuffles a bit in the sands, staring intently at the eggs...waiting breathlessly for the first crack of shell. Her hands rub absently at the sides of her robe. Kestra's gaze is drawn to the blue-green egg; then to the silver one; then to Cyrath, and back again to the eggs. So much happening, all at once... Darkness threatens to overwhelm the Showy and Shimmering Blue-Green Egg. But light greens sweep down, challenging the deeper hues in vicious battle as the egg twists and turns violently in it's sandy wallow. Silver-Flecked Candidate Robe Egg is jerking that strongly now that sand sprays a bit around it. It makes new indentations in the sand where candidates' foot prints were visible before. Sarai is gratefull for her height, dragged down as she is by Macami. Peering, Sarai sighs, "Definitly better from this end." Cyrath croons and reaches out to the Vaguely-Milked Bovine Egg, as if to pull it back to it's parking place. But the gold stops at a siilent look from Sarai. Laila takes several deep breaths. She backs up slightly, unconciously, only stopped by Bailey's and Tika's hands. The arcs of the Showy and Shimmering Blue-Green Egg bend and twist until, at last, the improbable positions become impossible, splitting the egg neatly in half. Malan grips Janine's and Raina's hands tightly, watching the eggs so intently he almost forgets to breath. Rotting Wood Sailboat Brown Hatchling A contrast in images crosses this stripling brown's hide. Rotted and dark length of prized Lemos wood stretch over his rangy form; a seacrafter's prized ship left out to wind and weather. Yet his wings fan like showy sails: river stone, open sky, sunset, and midnight vie for attention, each patch separate and distinct. With little baby fat about him and even less awkwardness, he is small for his color, but not overly so. The rotted wood tone of his back crumbles along his tail and muzzle, blown by the winds that catch his broad sails. In the wind's wake, the dark brown leaves striations of deeper walnut brown, curling along his egg-thin sides and dancing down his gaunt tail. Sure of motion, the hatchlings moves fast, full of his own grandeur and certain that he's larger than any bronze around. J'on crosses his arms, trying to stay still, look like he's done this a thousand times. The goofy grin keeps giving him away. Then his eyes widen as the brown hatches. Braedon clenches his hands nervously and then unclenches them. His eyes are glued to the rocking eggs. K'tel squeezes Katany's hand as the first hatchling appears. Benkin explains the new position to Tristram, "The girls won't block our view of the eggs this way, see!" His finger points out the brown as it breaks free. Kestra gasps softly as the first hatchling cracks shell. "Oh...he's beautiful..." Myklan shifts his treelike stance once, twice, then goes as still as some of the eggs, his unruly hair slipping out of the thong that holds it almost immediately. Feriam gasps "It's brown!" Macami draws in her breath sharply. "Brown!" Tears start trickling down her face, as should have been expected. Janine gasps as egg egg positively bounces. "Oh! It's trying to get out! " Malan remembers to breathe suddenly and smiles, "A brown... Cyrath bugels at her firstborn son! Tika ohs softly as she turns her attention away from the milky egg. "Brown..." she mouths, and just stares. Raina gasps... Braedon looks at the little brown in wonder. Laila opens her mouth, but no sound comes out. "Brown..." Leya murmers...her words unheard in the exclamations around her. "He's so beautiful..." For a little while, Talyon just stands there, stupidly hugging his shoulders, as if trying to protect himself from some invisible menace. Eggs are moving. Candidates are whispering excitedly. The whole world is a blur of confusion. /Hot/ confusion. He starts jumping from foot to foot, and really /jumps/ when the first Egg cracks open. "Brown..." he utters quite uselessly. But he just had to say something. Tristram shakes his head absently at Benkin, then draws a breath in sharply as the brown hatches. "Benkin! A brown!" Raina smiles over at Malan.. Vaguely Milked-Bovine Egg seems to be encouraged by this maternal attention, giving a more decided twitch. Then another. Tivuketh bugles and welcomes his son to Pern. Brown! Pride rings in his voice. Kestra blinks back sudden tears, smiling fit to burst at the beauty of the moment. Feriam catches Macamis reaction and a smile crosses his lips for second, understanding, then his attention returns to the little dragonet, following the first moments of its life with pride. "He's lovely! and so big!" Janine whispers. Silver-Flecked Candidate Robe Egg is in all frantic motion now, loud pecking sounds can be heard. The simple white shell will soon break it looks like. Rotting Wood Sailboat Brown Hatchling quickly makes his way out of his shell, but pauses, looking back at his mother's bugle, poised uncertainly on the sands. Cyrath seems less aggitated and moves to wind her neck around Tivuketh's for a moment, before nudging at a small pinkish egg on the side. Come along now. Follow suit. Laila stares at the brown dragonet, nodding silently to Janine's words. Tears stand in her eyes, not spilling quite yet. Feriam tucks at Janines arm in confirmation. Malan smiles warmly at Raina, then looks back at the brown. His look turns wary as the dragonet moves. Bailey doesn't add her voice to the chorus chanting, "Brown!" but that doesn't mean she's any less awed by the hatchling's emergence, her brown eyes flickering over the varying shades of the same color that are splayed across first hatchling's hide. Tika keeps staring at the brown with one eye, the other swivles almost imposibly to the milky egg, then both eyes focus back on the new hatchling. Janine watches him with an amused grin. "He's cute too." Tivuketh croons all tenderly to Cyrath, then follows the first steps of his brown son with his eyes. Raina nods to Janine, lovely.... Feriam grins slyly "He doesn't feel like going out just yet." Rotting Wood Sailboat Brown Hatchling gets over his hesitation quickly enough and takes a first tentative step. Another. And then - he begins to dash across the sands, suddenly in a mad hurry to get somewhere, to someone. He charges past the humans, giving them a quick once over before rushing on to the next. Myklan cocks his head ever so slightly to the side as he watches the brown, taking a visible gasp for breath as he does so. It does help to breathe on the red hot expanse of the hatching sands. Really, it does. Feriam shuffles his feet, finally feeling the heat on the sands. Sarai smiles at the brown, "Well now, Cami...See, a brown and he's strong and fine. Go on now, fellow." Tristram catches Laila's reaction, and tries to catch the girl's eye to smile reassuringly at her, before his attention is drawn back to the hatchling on the sands. Another breath is drawn in suddenly, and he tenses, ready to move as the brown dashes across the sands. Raina blinks, watching the fast brown "Shards!!.." A laugh escapes Kestra--a sound of pure delight. She blinks and blushes, wondering if she's just committed some unpardonable offense. Laila almost jumps at the brown breaks into a run. Janine nods to Feriam, "It must be so confusing for him." she continues to watch the brown. Tika giggles nervously. "He's certainly in a hurry..." Macami wipes her face. "Yes, a brown. Oh my." She leans closer to Sarai. Leya stands rigidly now, watching the brown's mad dash nervously...yet a smile plays on her face at his determination. J'on murmurs too softly to be heard five feet away "Dodge, don't touch.." Malan gets ready to dodge as the brown suddenly runs, then relaxes as he's not directly in the dragonet's path. Feriam takes a small step back to make room for the newborn dragon. Silver-Flecked Candidate Robe Egg does not slow down, rocking wildly. Some faint cracks run down the shell now. Here's someone in there who wants attention as well. Raina glances at Malan, moving over a bit. Talyon's gaze settles on the Hatchling. He blinks, as if suddenly understanding what it means -- the Hatching has started, lad! Stop daydreaming! -- and he takes a hissing breath, unfolding his arms and clinging at the closest thing: Tika's shoulder. Braedon takes a small step back, and then stands very still, trying not to tremble to much Rotting Wood Sailboat Brown Hatchling makes quick work of a group of male candidates, scattering them in his headlong dash. He slows by a group of females, pausing again, hesitating. Laila catches the movement out of the corner of her eye, moving back a little more, making way. Janine Steps back too then relaxes. "I didn't know they could move so fast!" Kestra is brought back to reality at the warning, watching the brown, ready to step back. Her cheeks are still flushed, though with excitement rather than embarassment now. Vaguely Milked-Bovine Egg decides this rocking thing is a lot of fun, and goes at it with a will. One end buries itself in the sands, then frees itself with a strong jerk. Feriam 's attention is distracted a moment at the cracking sound of a shell, but his attention is focused back on the dragonet flitting about. Kestra's laugh isn't an offense, it's an aid! Bailey lets herself smile, even allowing her soft voice utter, "They look so much more...alive from down here." Whether it's heard amongst the noise on the sound is another matter altogether as Bailey relaxes her grip on Kestra and Laila's hands just slightly. Malan glances at Raina and Janine, then nods, "He is fast. No wonder they warned us." Tika lets Talyon cling to her shoulders; or maybe she just is too transfixed by the hatchings... Silver-Flecked Candidate Robe Egg rolls closer to a group of candidates with its frantic motions, sending them off scattering. Celie purses her lips thoughtfully, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet, ready to side-step the sprinting hatchling. Myklan shifts his weight again, as uncomfortable on the sands as the eggs appear to be. Shift, shuffle, twitch. A blue and a bronze hatch almost simultaneously across the clutch from eachother. Both seem to know exactly who they want. The blue heads for a tall girl from Igen hold while the bronze stops in front of a lad from the Starcraft. Rotting Wood Sailboat Brown Hatchling decides its time to take a break and try out his voice. A range of sounds that could be called warbles and then bugles issue from him loudly if tunelessly as he experiments. Tika's eyes turn from the hatchling to the rocking egggs, to the hatchling to the eggs, her feet shifting the entire time. Janine eeps and dances back away from the rolling egg. "They're fast even when they haven't hatched!" Tivuketh bugles loudly again as first Impressions are made. A blue! A bronze!! Malan blinks, then jumps at the bugle "Wow." Benkin turns his entire body, not just his eyes, to watch the brown pass by. For once a sight that's struck silence into him until he hears the off-key noises it makes, wincing. Laila smiles despite her nervousness at the brown. Kestra has to smile again. "His voice works as well as his legs...oh!" She beams at the first Impressions. Leya flinches a bit, her hands raising a bit as she laughs. "What a voice!" Feriam chuckles at the antic of the little brown dragonet "He's a philosopher" J'on cheers for the first Impressions. So much for his cool. Tivuketh croons to his brown son, urging him on to find the one he wants and needs. Streched by an invisible hand, the red spot on the Silver-Flecked Candidate Robe Egg is pulled into an off kilter oval, drawing attention from the overpowering silver. The Silver-Flecked Candidate Robe Egg lets the silver steal center-stage again; greys and whites vying for attention until the egg splits, raining silver, white, and one tiny bit of red around the hatchling. Collected Deep Water Green Hatchling Submarine green, dredged up from the depths of a moonless midnight, sheathes this little girl from head knob to talon. Spots of dull auburn and sand are sprinkled across her ridges in a panorama of the ocean floor. Flattish head, too small for her burly frame, juts up from the darkness as if emerging from the depths. Here and there along her flanks darts a glimmer of a lighter shade; a sparkle from a shaft of light daring these deep waters. A murky blackish blue flickers along her underbelly and sends questing vines down each limb, to conclude in near-black talons. As deep and secretive as her coloring, this lady is not so much proud as collected. Water has a perfect memory of its past, and the still, cool, water runs deep. Thus is her demeanor; willing to let the world flow around her at its own pace. That is, at least after she finds a cure for the ache in her stomach, which supercedes all other thoughts. Feriam smiles warmly as the first Impressions are made, finally realizing what a grand moment he is allowed to wittness. All strain is gone from his face. Vaguely Milked-Bovine Egg keeps up its motion. End to end longways, it looks almost like a little getting carried away in a rocking chair. Then it actually flops itself over, and long cracks appear. Kestra's eyes are drawn briefly away, to the elegant little green. Braedon looks in awe at the new hatchling. Tika smiles as the first impressions are made, then ohhhss... as the green hatches. "Look... oh she's beautiful..." Rotting Wood Sailboat Brown Hatchling has had enough vocal practice for now, as the rumbling of his empty stomach is even louder, and he looks searchingly about the sands before taking off at a lunging run once again, butting candidates out of his way as he goes. Feriam pulls Janine's arm and nods in the direction of another hatchling "Look there!" Malan looks at the green with a smile, "She's pretty." Braedon nods. "She is." Kestra is hurriedly brought back to the here and now. "Watch out, here he comes!" Celie's eyes light up at the sight of the first green. Her smile is like the sun coming up. Collected Deep Water Green Hatchling sits daintily after that long fight with her egg. She turns her head to croon to her dam and sire, then takes some tentative steps, as if to collect herself. There's work to be done! Tristram hisses at the sounds the little brown makes, then makes an 'erp' sound as he steps out of the way as the brown barrels his way through the Candidates. "Shells!" he exclaims. Laila looks up at the green, smiling for a moment, before noting the mad dash of the brown, and attempting to get out of the way. K'tel comments to Katany, "Very nice green." Malan turns back to look at the brown and moves to keep out of his way. Janine 'Oohs' when another egg hatches. "She's such a darling! And what a lovely color!" Raina gasps at the green "Oh, what a colour. "He can't sing either," Bailey voices into the din. Is she talking about herself or someone else? Who knows. Although earthy brown eyes are loathe to leave the dark woody brown, they do as a silver-flecked egg shatters, depositing a green. "Look at her stomach," she says, "What an interesting color..." Sarai patpats Macami's hand as she and Cyrath watch the little green. Cyrath trills at her daughter and sits down, fanning her wings slightly. Tika prepares to move in case the brown decides to barrel through her group. Feriam spots the Brown coming down the circle of candidates as his eyes chase between the hatchling and candidates. Macami tugs at Sarai's arm again. "Look look look! How lovely she is." Raina moves a bit to keep out of the lurching dragonettes. Feriam grins "They run faster than I thought possible" Talyon smiles at Tika, apologetically, and looks around. Oy. More Hatchlings. He prepares to dodge, as he was told, just in case, but it proves unnecessary. They don't even crawl his way. A hissing sound comes from his throat as the first Impressions are made. All is happening very fast... A green, now. Beautiful as she is, she doesn't receive from Talyon more than a quite confused glance. Rotting Wood Sailboat Brown Hatchling pauses once more, coming to a sudden halt, turning sharply and then racing to one of the female candidates, at last! Raina nods to Feriam, gareeing. J'on looks up to Linneth, up in the stands, and his eyes glisten for a moment before locking back on the sands. Malan nods to Feriam, "They sure do." Rotting Wood Sailboat Brown Hatchling looks deeply into Laila's eyes. Sarai smiles at Macami. "Yes, look at her..OH the brown! Cami! The brown the brown!" Hot Spice Tea Egg shivers just slightly. Janine steps out of the way of the racing brown and loses track of the green newborn. Tristram sucks in a sudden breath, unaware he was holding it. "Laila!" he cheers. Raina gasps "Liala!..." Macami jumps up and down. "He picked! He picked Laila! Good boy." She impulsively hugs Sarai, then looks back at the new pair. Malan smiles, "Good going, Laila." Tika drops Laila's hand. "Oh congrats! Congratys! Brown!!!" Kestra beams for her friend. Myklan shifts his position again, abruptly noticing and crossing the sudden open place between he and the rest of the semi-circle. A quiet glance then smile is cast towards Laila as he hears the fuss. Sarai eeps and coughs as Cami's hug knocks the air out of her lungs. Leya cheers faintly as Laila Impresses nearby. "Congrats Laila! Oh! A brown!" she yells. Janine grins "Laila!" J'on just grins. He softly says "Of course," and reaches for the belt pouch that's not there. Red Sisal Handfasting Egg quivers. Anticipation Celie adds a rousing round of applause to the din, cheering Laila and her new lifemate! Laila drops to her knees, shaking, the tears spilling. She gasps, unmindful of the heat, looping her arms around her lifemate. "His name is Ordoneth!" she shouts, joyfully. Feriam 's eyes follow the race of the Brown until the moment he gazes into Laila's eyes, and gives her a warm smile followed by a cheer Braedon's eyes fill with tears as he looks at his sister. Siara is smiling widely,as she moves at last from her position, starting to make her way a bit closer, to where she can beckon Laila and her new lifemate. K'tel smiles, trying out the name quietly, "Ordoneth and Laila." Bailey's eyes widen as the brown charges in the direction of where she, Laila, and Kestra are linked, and she tightens her grip on their hands until seeing the brown stop short to stare up at her fellow sewing partner, whereupon she releases Laila's hand instantly, genuine smile enveloping her features, "Laila and Ordoneth, how wonderful!" she breathes. Braedon says "Way to go. Laila." Sarai mouths the name, "Ordoneth...Wow. Now with one hand free, she lifts it behind her to offer it to Talyon. "Ordeneth.." she whispers. Feriam looks around quizzically "His name is Ordoneth? What a wonderful name!" Red Sisal Handfasting Egg starts to tremble - the first faint vibration of the string. The shadow cast on the sands shifts slightly. Janine says "Ordoneth! Such a good name. Ordonith and Laila." Kestra squeezes Bailey's other hand. "Ordoneth," she murmurs. Collected Deep Water Green Hatchling takes the time to try to learn walking while all attention is off her. She takes things very slow, unfolding her wings, flapping them a bit and being all surprised at this exciting thing called life. Until her stomach makes itself felt. Hunger! Where is the one? She increases her speed now to find her loved one. Talyon blinks as he overhears something. He turns to Laila and blinks again. Laila... She's a Rider, now... "Oh, congrats, Laila, congrats, congrats," he repeats over and over, but still blinking, perhaps trying to convince himself that all of this is not another weird dream. Vaguely Milked-Bovine Egg rocks again, hard, and the cracks all give way at once, pieces of shell spattering everywhere. Laila hasn't heard much, unfortunately. She's sobbing uncontrollably now, and rises, moving to Sarai. Abruptly bucking, perhaps kicked from within, the Vaguely Milked-Bovine Egg leaps off its mound of sand. Landing from a leap, the Vaguely Milked-Bovine Egg makes a solid thump in the ground. Then, like a spilt bucket of milk, the egg tumbles over, spilling out bounding dragonet. Tristram also murmurs the name to himself, then turns back to watch the eggs and hatchlings, throat moving convulsively. Macami can't seem to stop crying herself. "Ordoneth. This is so incredible." She turns her head to smile up at Tivuketh. Irreverent Sunken Statuary Blue Rippling with dull shades, more green verdigris than blue, this small, brassy fellow's muscular hide ripples like a brass horn left in the sea for far too many turns, now grown over by water-weeds and barnacle build-up. Soft sea blues, kissed by dull red-browns, caresses both wingspars and flanks, dipping into inky blue shadows behind shoulders and near-transparent flows across his belly. Aged copper-blue spreads from long and thin head knobs to pointed wingspars. Mint- blue highlights his trim flanks to embrace each talon in muted powdery green. Deepest blue rises from between almost scrawny forelegs to wreath his overly long neck in a garland, and again over his stocky whipcord of a tail. Decidedly unhandsome, he has more character than beauty, though by no means is he ugly. There's a certain reckless quality about him; a disregard for others which he displays in broadly open movements. The others may or may not move aside for him, but this fellow takes it in stride. Siara goes to Laila's side and points the way to the barracks. Sarai looks at Laila, "Congratulations," says the goldrider, as the weyrlingmasters take care of the weyrlings. Benkin watches Laila and Ordoneth depart his immediate area, looking particularily lost until Raygan physically turns his attention to a solitary egg and whispers to him, "That's the one." Then she's yanked him to look at yet another hatchling emerging. Tika's eyes snap to the vaguly milked egg. "Blue!" she calls "Look at him!" she tugs at Talyon's arm. Macami jumps again as the next egg hatches. "A blue! Ah, all sorts of colours." She says this as if she had expected something very different from this. Kestra smiles a bit at the ungainly blue. "Oh, look at him..." Malan looks back at the eggs in time to see the blue, "Oh, a blue...." Braedon casts one look after his sister, and then turns back to gaze at the hatchlings. Sarai looks at Macami, highly amused, "Look at him. He's so ... well he's got character." Siara smiles excitedly as another pair makes their way off the sands, turning her attention back to the hatchings. Feriam takes a leap as he dodges a green dragonet whose chase for a lifemate seems to take it right through the middle of the circle With the danger of being charged by the brown gone, Leya notices the green and the blue "Lovely!" she says aloud. She bends down to quickly scratch at her knee, her eyes darting back and forth to all the wonderous things happening on the sands. Raina smiles and nods to malan, hooking her arm with his. Collected Deep Water Green Hatchling stops again, looking at a group of girls from afar. There is something attractive about this group. She lifts her head daintily again and starts to take a closer look. Janine watches Laila and Ordonith move away and sighs. Then she turns to look across the eggs to the other hatchlings milling around. She watches one green closely. Bailey's free hand is left hanging, and she uses it to fuss at the pleats in her robe as she glances toward Kestra, "How wonderful," she says, still stuck on what has just happened, ignorant of the location of the collected green or the blue hatchling just emerging. Irreverent Sunken Statuary Blue pauses, shaking a foreleg. That shell's a definite annoyance now. The motion almost bowls him over, but his tail whips out just fast enough to counterbalance him. He cranes his neck to look around, overlarge eyes trying to take in everything. Red Sisal Handfasting Egg starts to rock slowly, gentle motions shifting gradually to jerking movements. Tristram turns to Benkin, "Which one?" He shifts his weight back and forth from one foot to the other, muttering, "Hot. Hot sand." Kestra nods agreement to Bailey. "It IS wonderful...it's real, isn't it? It's really happening..." Something attracts Talyon's attention. Oh, a blue. "Gorgeous..." he answers Tika without even looking at her. The green is completely forgotten, now, which is a mistake, but you just don't have full control of yourself. His gaze just lingers one last time on Laila. Ordeneth... Welcome to this wonderful and crazy world. Tika's eyes turn from the green to the blue. "Lovely... the BOTH of them..." she looks around as if dareing anyone to challenge her. Hot Spice Tea Egg jumps a little to one side, knocking into a neighboring egg. It gives another shudder then pauses, as if it just isn't quite the right moment. Myklan recrosses his arms uncomfortably, shifting his shoulders from side to side, then stretching his neck as if to relieve tension as he watches from his self imposed isolation from his fellow Candidates. Red Sisal Handfasting Egg catches the light, flashing as it shifts positions more radically. The anticipation now desperate, longing. J'on chuckles and nods to the ledges. "Yes," he says. "Yes, he will." The blue has his attention as well for the moment. Raina glances over the eggs, watching this one and that pop open, depositing dragonettes onto the sands. Malan smiles encouragingly at Raina, then turns to watch the dragonets. Janine grins and changes her attention to the little blue as he tries to get free. Benkin turns back to Tristram, "Hmm? What?" Then dawning and he jerks his thumb to Raygan, small smile on his lips, "Just Raygan being optimistic, can't ever think of anyone but herself for longer than it takes to go between." He is smiling at the girl, though, her attention elsewhere as he talks to Tristram. Feriam returns slowly to his position in the circle, eyes watchful of hatchlings and eggs a like. Kestra's eyes are drawn away from hatchlings for a moment, to the red sisal egg which she spent so much time with during the touchings... Braedon looks nervously at his fellow candidates and tries to smile. He wipes away the tears and turns back to the hatchlings. Red Sisal Handfasting Egg starts to spin wildly as its inhabitent seeks release, dust rising in a thin cloud from the hot sands. Collected Deep Water Green Hatchling is a lot closer to the group of girls now and gives each girl a tentative sniff. Her eyes shine with hunger and need, but she has to be careful with her movements. At last she increases her speed. There's the one who'll be good to her! She almost runs to end up at the feet of a girl with shining black hair. Tristram chuckles. "Yeah." His attention is drawn back to the eggs and hatchlings as well, still doing the hot sand dance, that slow shifting that marks burning feet. Janine looks to Malan. "I think the blue is cute too. Don't you?" The Collected Deep Water Green Hatchling gazes into Janine's eyes. Malan smiles at Janine, "They're all cute. Malan blinks, "Janine! Great!" Raina hopes from one foot to the other, watching the green then gasps "Janine!.." Myklan actually breaks into an abrupt smile as his glance rather accidentally catches Janine's impression. Braedon cheers loudly in congratulations to Janine. The tears begin again. Leya cheers once again! "Janine!!! A green!" Kestra's attention is caught by the cheers. "Oh, Janine...that's wondeful! What's her name?" Malan lets Janine's hand go and watches her and the green. Tika drops Janine's hand too. "Janine!" she claps her on the back quickly. "Oh, a Green! Congrats!" Celie sniffles a bit, eyes spilling over in an uncontrolled display of emotion as the green Impresses. She reaches for her handkerchief quickly, before anyone sees. Feriam looks puzzled as the hand he has been holding so gently slips away, he tilts his head just as Janine impresses. He laughs heartily "Oh Janine! I am happy for you!" Irreverent Sunken Statuary Blue starts forward, and this time does fall flat. He recovers after a moment, shaking his head. He meant to do that, really! With dignity befitting a Lord Holder, he slowly progresses out of the mass of the eggs, approaching the white things which look so much more interesting, and call to him so mysteriously. Tristram glances over at the group of girls, smiling faintly as the green Impresses to Janine. He turns back to the activity on the sands. Hm, there was a blue here, wasn't there? Yes, there. Macami had calmed down but Janine Impressing Tivuketh's green daughter is enough for her to make her cry again. "Sa...Sarai, did you see that?" Red Sisal Handfasting Egg shudders urgently, its surface seeming to ripple, whether from the play of light or the stress within. Sarai looks over at Celie. She saw that, "Celie, did Urieth see? A green!" Bailey gasps softly as Janine Impresses as well, "Look, that green!" she indicates to those who remain near her, "I hoped she'd Impress!" Janine whips her around to look infront of her and drops to her knees! "Of course I'll feed you, Acevedath! Forever!" Hot Spice Tea Egg moves again. This time it rolls completely over, away from the closest other egg. The movements continue this time in small twists and jumps that accentuate the increasing number of larger shudders. Raina moves off from Janine, and closer to malan.. Celie clears her throat, several times and nods, not trusting herself enough to speak. Janine helps Acevedath to a better spot. Tika's hand tightens on Talyon as she watches the progression of hatchlings, impressions, and eggs. "Acevedeth..." she murmers. Malan moves closer to Raina, watching Janine with a smile. Siara turns from sheparding another pair into the barracks to see Janine and the new green hatchling. Her smile brightens even further and she gestures to them to follow her. Kestra bites her lip and nods. For once in her life, she has no words for the occasion, so she contents herself with that simple nod. J'on laughs to himself. "Acevedath. What a great name." He looks at the candidates with pride. Talyon lifts a foot and shakes some sand out of his sandal. But something happens not far away -- Janine is peering down at the little green. The lad takes a deep breath and blinks, and blinks, and blinks. Janine Impressed! Oh, it's wonderful! "Congrats, Janine!" he cheers, completely forgetting that his foot is still lifted. Raina says softly Malan "I knew she'd impress" Sliding slowly, the Red Sisal Handfasting Egg shudders. An imperfection across a textureless egg. Malan nods to Raina and murmurs, "I thought so too." Feriam steps closer to Raina and Malan and nods "She deserves it too!" Motion mars the unwrinkled, Red Sisal Handfasting Egg. The soft fires that once wisp now storm across blood red and roar to life against saffron and scarlets. Shards of red scatter across the sands, standing out as a glowing nimbus to the dragonet within. Janine stands and leads Acevedath away. Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling Some smith has left his tool out to weather, causing the fine grey metal to oxidize into rust along this lad's blunt muzzle and bulky shoulders. The reddish under base makes it self-evident as well in the curve of a tail whose thickness is natural rather than being due to poor health. Brawny beefcake musculature erases what little elegance there was to behold in the first place. The subtle grace is overwhelmed by the shifting streaks of dark, glossy ooze that trail over him like a garment woven of half-rotted seaweed. The decay of plant and taint on metal may not succeed in hiding this brown lad's strength from the world, but they give it a fair try, and in the doing so ensure that he retains a unique appearance amongst his brethren. Judging by his demeanor, his appearance clearly concerns him not at all; his carmine eyes and deep bugle of demand indicate that his mind rests only on its twinned directives: to find food, and the lifetime partner who'll provide it. Malan smiles at Feriam, "She definitely does." Janine strides into the Weyrlings Barracks. Raina nods, turning to Feriam.. Macami tries to mouthe the name of Janine's lifemate. "Acevedath. You know, our darlings' dragonets sure have interesting names." Her voice sounds nasal from her runny nose. Irreverent Sunken Statuary Blue keeps up his steady progression. White things, yes. Then he stops dead and looks at his belly. What's that feeling? He sure doesn't like it. Maybe it has something to do with the white things? The loud gurgle is audible as he looks back up and begins to try to move faster toward the candidates. Kestra ohs! "Look..." She points to the mottled brown. Tristram's attention is caught suddenly, by the brown that makes his presence known all of the sudden. He stares, whistling softly under his breath. Raina blinks and jumps as an egg hatches close to her, then notices the brown. Tika points to the new brown. "Look! He's so... well... I don't know..." she giggles. Hot Spice Tea Egg rolls back again then forward. Soon it has worn a small rut in the sands with it's efforts. This isn't working! Another, almost annoyed, jump propels the egg farther than the already worn path. Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling struggles to his feet, his chest expanding as he takes his first, urgent breath. It bursts forth afterwards as a shrill note, hitting the wall of the cavern and bouncing back hollowly. He inhales against and then bugles! Air! Noise! Triumph! Kestra says "He's beautiful...just in his own way, is all!" Malan blinks at the brown, "Another one." Tika looks back at the blue and giggles, then awws. "Oh, he's hungry..." Raina laughs "Oh yes, he's a loud one!.." Braedon Grins at the little brown, and turns back to look at the blue. "Another brown! Look at his coloring!" Leya says, laughing. "He's beautiful!" she states with an added giggle. Malan winces, then grins, "And not shy, either." It takes another egg's shuddering and eruption to stop Bailey from gawking at Janine and her Acevedath, looking over to take in the rusted hunk of a brown that emerged from the brilliantly red egg. A little overawed is she, blinking several times. Macami lets go of Sarai's arm for a brief moment. "Another brown. Oh, I love these browns. Oh Sarai, I'm so happy!" Her lifemate's call behind her shows he's as happy. Feriam is distracted from his gazing around the commotion by a noise coming from amidst the eggs. Raina claps her hand over her ears but just grins. Soothing Textured Green Egg tilts slightly in the sand, turning ever so gently. Tika ohs and covers her ears. "Definatly a strong one, that brown..." Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling inhales again and then sneezes. He is thrown back on his shaky haunches. He shakes his head and flutters his wings, oh my oh my this air is complicated! Sarai smiles and frantically shakes her hand out now that it's free! Feriam sighs happily "They are all so beautiful. One more so than the other yet none the less." Malan laughs! Kestra ohs. "Careful!" She watches the brown teeter and wobble with concern. Raina grins and nods to Feriam "interesting, that's for sure!" Irreverent Sunken Statuary Blue starts toward a cluster of female candidates, then pauses. No. No. Not right. Hmmm. Then he spreads his wings and bugles. Maybe he can get them to come to him! He cocks his head hopefully, waiting. Tristram blinks, then chuckles at the brown's actions. He claps his hand over his mouth, then lowers it again, unable to hide the grin. Malan remembers his manners and tries to show concern for the brown. Benkin stands one foot, tilting ever so slightly to look about Tristram's form but it doesn't help as eggs crack and hatchlings speed bye at dizzying speeds. Braedon looks at the soothing textured green egg, then turns to look back at the hatchlings. Something causes a smile to creep up on Myklan's lip, as he again closes the ranks among those who are left from the previous impressions. Somehow, he finds himself near Talyon. Raina grins, giveing Malan her customary nduge. Talyon turns a blinking glance toward Tika. Is it a giggle he just heard? Oh, yes, but there was a good reason to it. "Look at this little lad!" He giggles, too, in his turn. "Oops, beware, there's a blue coming our way, too." At last, Talyon has forgotten his fears, and hope glitters in his eyes. Feriam chuckles at the young Brown's antics "He's got one thing or another to learn yet." Hot Spice Tea Egg rocks about, working yet another pattern in the sand. Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling jerks his head around to examine what he flutters. Ah, these must /make/ the air. With a joyful spring he moves legs and wings alike, hopping along the sands. Look, the ground moves! He spies the candidates and stops. Macami seems to remember that something's missing. She isn't clutching Sarai's arm! She quickly moves back to do just that to the goldrider. Tristram mutters to Benkin, "It all goes so fast!" Bailey smiles once again. Though big and loud, apparently the brown is not infallible. But suddenly there's a blue to contend with and as she spies him eyeing Benkin and Tristram, scooting a few steps sideways. Kestra has to laugh. "Tika, he jumps, just like you!" Tika squeezes Talyon's hand, then sighs as the blue seems to turn his attention away. J'on crosses his fingers unobtrusively. Soothing Textured Green Egg may be plain, but that only lets it glide more across the sand. A gentle rocking. not quite ready YET, but thinking about it. Thinking about it. Braedon chuckles softly at the hatchlings' antics. Tika looks up at Kestra. "Huh? Oh!" she giggles again. Siara pauses in her ferrying of weyrling pairs to look over at J'on and smile deeply at him. Raina points over to the little green egg "It's rockin Malan, what came out of your, brown?" Janine drops to her knees. "I know your hungry! I'll get some meat right now!" Leya grins as she catches sight of the imploring blue...and resists the urge to rush over to him. "He isn't...why...he isn't begging, is he?" Malan nods to Raina, "Yeah, Laila's brown. What do you think for that one?" Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling croaks to the uninhale-able things oh hey... they make noise too! He streeeettttccches out his neck to examine the giggling one. Feriam almost looses his footing as a blue hatchling squeezes past him on its search for a lifemate. He follows the little blue thing with a chuckle and a smile. Amazing. Raina shrugs lightly 'Malan, I haven't a clue" Kestra ohs softly, watching wide-eyed as the brown sniffs at Tika. Tika's eyes widen and she looks back at the brown. Sarai eeeps as sher arm is grabbed again, "Honestly, Cami...They're doing fine. No one's hurt or anything!" Raina glances over at the Brown "He's nosey too" Malan chuckles, "Nah, just curious." Macami starts giggling herself as she watches the little brown. "I know no one's hurts, sweeting, but look at them." How one can giggle and cry in the same instant is a marvel. Her eyes go seeking to where Siara is on the sands to beam at her. Feriam grins over to Malan "Curious indeed! Ths one especially" Irreverent Sunken Statuary Blue drops his wings in frustration. Well, that didn't work. He'll just have to be more direct, then, won't he? He charges forward, scattering a couple of Minercrafters who were previously locked together, and once more falls tail over nose. He lifts his muzzle and gives an exasperated sigh. Sarai seems faintly embarassed at Macami's clingling, but takes it like a trooper. Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling makes the ground move some more, his motions coordinating a bit more and his wings coming up behind him. Some instinct grabs hold as he begins to weave in and out amongst the Candidates. Air, check. The ground thing is going a-okay, it moves like it is s'posed to. But - butbutbutbut! Something else is needed. Siara looks up from untangling a weyrling and dragonet enough to get them into the barracks and beams back at Macami joyfully. Braedon nervously tucks a wayword lock of hair behind his ear, and looks back at the eggs. The movement cause the hair to swing freely in front of his eye again. Hot Spice Tea Egg gives up on rocking for the moment. Tika sighs as the brown turns away from her, then begins giggling, softer now, at the blue. Soothing Textured Green Egg stops moving for a moment, then kicks itself up and off it's little sand mound. Darn it. How does this work? Sand spills off the Hot Spice Tea Egg, as the egg is stirred from within. Flecks of obsidian and cream leap to the surface, dancing madly across the shell. Talyon shifts his weight from foot to foot, nodding to acknowledge Myklan's presence at his side. He grabs his hand and turns his glance back to... the blue? The glance back to... the blue? The brown? The Eggs? Oh, my... So many things are happening at the same time. He shakes his head and decides to look at the Eggs, without forgetting the Hatchlings either. You have to be careful, don't you? Raina winces as her soles brun, she's been standing in one spot too long again and she moves on, circling the eggs, moving calmly now. Kestra watches the brown weave through the Candidates, ready to dodge if need be. He's small for a dragon, but could still do a lot of damage if he landed on a Candiate! The Hot Spice Tea Egg falls over, its contents spilling out onto the sands with liquid grace. Subdued Coral Speckled Green Hatchling Old for her age, this green moves with remarkable confidence. Face and body round with youth, she shows the potential of grace. A true debutante, the sea- green hue of her torso accessorised with pale purple and pink, while a scooping line of wheat yellow caresses the back of her neck. A lean neck, not overly long, arches smoothly to show that the yellow line encircles her entire neck. Blue coils trace the delicate lines of her flanks, rippling down across all four legs, and then winding crisply down her tail. Her beauty is more handsomeness, firm lines drawn across her coral green form by Faranth herself. A dancer on the ground as well as in the sky, pale sea blue wisps over her wings. Trim of body, her wings match in their crisp delineation and average size. Neither large nor small, she is tidy without being compact. Malan blinks as Raina moves, then remembers his hot feet and moves too. A Hatching calls attention in so many directions at once. Bailey eyes the juncture of her hand with Kestra's as if doubting her senses, but then her gaze is called up to wince as the blue again takes a tumble. He doesn't appear hurt, however, and so again, the rather comical brown is the one her eyes linger upon. K'tel oohs softly, nodding to the green just hatched, "Now that's some interesting coloring." Tika's gaze slips to the new green. "Now THAT is a true beauty..." Irreverent Sunken Statuary Blue hauls himself up, and almost into his brown brother as he passes. Back that way! Yes! And right between a VERY tall white thing and one that was giggling before! There's his answer! He hurries, and this time manages not to flop at the feet of HIS candidate. Macami does not look the least bit embarrassed and starts howling her delight. "Another little beauty for our wings!" Myklan bites his lip, watching the green with curious eyes. The brown gets another glance, as does the blue...and then back to the green. Malan turns back and looks at the green, "Ooh, another pretty one." Braedon's eyes widen as the green hatchling emerges from her egg. He looks back at the other hatchlings then turns back to look at the eggs. The Irreverent Sunken Statuary Blue gazes into Talyon's eyes. Leya turns her head this way and that...so many hatchlings appearing all at once...where to look first? She watches as the poor blue finally finds his lifemate, her eyes shining as Talyon Impresses. Malan smiles, "Good going, Talyon." Myklan startles back as the blue falls at Talyon's feet, blinking and grinning at once. Raina gasps "Oh Talyon!....congratzulations!" Tika's eyes widen and she drops Talyon's hand. "Talyon! Blue!!! What's his name??" Kestra is so busy trying to avoid the brown that she nearly misses Talyon's Impression. When she notices it, she beams for the tall Candidate, distracted for the moment as yet another of her friends Impresses. Braedon claps his hands and cheers for Talyon. Feriam has to sidestep another blue hatchling- or was it the same- as he runs straight for Tika. Turn around and getting back in his position, Feriam wittnesses as Impression is made and he smiles to himself at so much happyiness. Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling catches sight of the blue and shrieks loudly. Eureka! That is what is next. Air, ground, /one of those white things/. He whacks his tail triumphantly thud! J'on lets out an unabashed cheer! "Talyon! T'yon? T'lon?" He tries out names to himself, grinning at the now former stablehand. Raina blinks her eyes as sand sprays 'Shards..." then she grins "That's a funny brown!" Malan looks back at the brown and laughs again. Soothing Textured Green Egg rolls over a bit, sliding further off his mother-picked mound, and clicking against another egg. Siara gives a happy sigh as another blue impresses, "Congratulations!" she calls to Talyon, moving quickly in that direction now. Tika giggles. "I knew you would! I just knew! Didn't I tell you?!" T'al's mouth gaps open and he gaps for air, peering into the whirling eyes. He tries to say something, fails, sinks to his knees and throws his arms arounf the still wet neck. "Oh, Visquath, Visquath, love, oh no, I'm not rejecting you! How could I!" "He won't be mucking the stables now," Bailey murmurs as she twists around to eye the newest weyrling pair, T'al and Visquath. T'al helps Visquath to a better spot. Macami lets go of the goldrider again. For about 30 seconds, the time it takes her to clap her hands loudly at Talyon's Impression. T'al's Impression. Kestra blinks at the thud and the shriek. "Well of COURSE you're hungry, silly! Find your lifemate!" Feriam turns his eyes back to the eggs and sands in front of himself and the funny Brown who catches all the attention at the moment. Sarai has time to breath before she's glommed onto by the brownrider that seems to be surigcally attached to her arm. Subdued Coral Speckled Green Hatchling blinks at the sudden light and noise about her. She struggles to her feet then pauses to take in the scene. She stretches her still wet wings gracefully then moves forward. Something needs to be done. She squeals in surprise as her feet don't work quite right. She stops again, peering down at the offending limbs. Benkin fills a space between Bailey and Tristram, positioning to get a better look at the latest in their area of the circle to impress. Soothing Textured Green Egg twitches again. Come on! A violent twitch. Myklan shifts his own position, getting into the place where Talyon...now T'al, once stood. Tika grins. "Visquath..." Siara begins to try to help lead Talyon and his new lifemate in the direction of the barracks. T'al is weeping, now, as he paces his way toward the Weyrling Barracks. Not ever alone again! Oh, is this possible! Janine shakes her head and quickly offers Acevedath a bigger chunk. "Sorry, darling! I'm new at this too!" Braedon grins at T'al, and then turns back to look at the other candidates. T'al strides into the Weyrlings Barracks. Raina sighs softly "Amazin, isn't it?... Tika looks around... now she is alone... she puffs up and grins, though, looking from hatchlings to eggs. J'on just beams. He uncrosses his arms and bounces. Bailey extends her hand shyly over toward Benkin as he enters her peripheral vision field. Her lower lip is chewed as she surveys those hatchlings still unImpressed, wary as they've been moving so quickly. Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling tilts his head. No ears, and yet, he hears something. He makes the earth move again, fluttering those wings so he can still breathe... until the tail trips him up and he rolls in the direction of this /noise/... of COURSE. Macami turns her head to Sarai. "Shells, don't stand there all tense, stiff. I could dance you around the sands." Oh, she would! Malan nods, "Yeah. Just don't forget to dodge now. Feriam nods to Raina dreamly "It is. I've didn't believe it to be true." Sarai looks agape at Macami, "You wouldn't!?" Tristram chuckles and cheers for Tal...T'al, now. He sucks in air suddenly as he watches the brown roll. Raina smiles warmly at Feriam, nodding "Talyon...can you believe that" Kestra's mother-hen instincts are in full bloom now. "Silly brown...you're all confused, aren't you? Find your lifemate, and they'll explain it all to you, don't you know that?" Subdued Coral Speckled Green Hatchling tries this again. She raises her head and wings high and steps out. It works! She swirls forward in a rush, sand flying, towards the nearest candidates. Feriam sighs and his voice trails off "amazing..." Soothing Textured Green Egg twitches again, harder and inexpertly trying to get this right, the creature within is growing impatient. Wise Mountain Mist Egg quivers, shimmering vibrations running along the placid surface of its shell. Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling gets up and sneezes. Darn this air it is just not /right/. And this tail is useless for - for - whatever it is for! But - wait - /geronimo/ I think I found a White Thing!!! Malan chuckles again at the brown. The Brawny Thalassic Ooze Brown Hatchling gazes into Kestra's eyes. Raina winces and shifts, picking up her feet, and just has to giggle at that Brown, looking down at the egg framents. Feriam takes a small step forward as he spots the white egg twitching for the first time, not looking where goes. Macami walks a step into the direction of the brown who seems to have made his choice, dragging Sarai with her. Until she notices the dragging, that is. Tristram watches the brown, amused, holding himself slightly aloft. He nods when the brown Impresses to Kestra, and turns back. More eggs, and more hatchlings to watch. Kestra's eyes go wide, and she stops in mid-finger-waggle. "I...I...Hargroth?" Malan smiles, "Good going, Kestra." Braedon grins at Kestra and cheers. "Congratulations Kestra!" Sarai wriggels firmly, "Cami, leggo my arm!" Subdued Coral Speckled Green Hatchling hears the sneeze and turns luminescent eyes towards her brother. What manners! More politely, she traipses along the line of candidates, not too close but close enough to get a good idea of their breeding. Leya claps her hands together "Kestra! Wonderful choice!" Raina blinks "Kestra...oh, congratulations" Tika giggles. "He found his lifemate..." she mutters, then. "Brown! Congrats!" J'on laughs. "Kestra. Yes, that'll be good." Kestra's face lights up like the rising sun, tears spilling down her cheeks. "Oh, Hargroth!" She hugs the brown, awkwardly. Kestra helps Hargroth to a better spot. Wise Mountain Mist Egg trembles violently, quivering turning into shuddering as a myriad of hairline cracks begin to crease its surface Siara gives a laugh and applauds as the next impression occurrs, hurrying over to Kestra and Hargroth to help them. Soothing Textured Green Egg stops moving comepletly. Perhaps the egg is collecting it's strength for what is inevitable. Macami pouts at the goldrider, then crosses her arms in front of her chest, until she starts cheering for Kestra, throwing her arms up high. She is a bit hysterical, very obviously. Bailey finds her hands, both of them now, unoccupied, but she's not unduly disturbed by it. At least not yet. Her face just lights up with pride, "Oh, Kestra, he's amazing." Myklan chews on his lip, glancing around at the dwindling number of candidates, then turns to watch Kestra lead her new lifemate away. Kestra beams at Bailey, eyes wet with tears, then helps her new lifemate from the sands. Kestra strides into the Weyrlings Barracks. While the Soothing Textured Green Egg is lacking of flash and pomp, it does roll to the forefront of this stage by. Attention is rolled into by, literally, rolling right off its mound and into another egg, connecting with a loud *CLICK*. Feriam walks over slightly to side to have a better view of the eggs, still smiling over Kestras impression and the beauty of it all. Calmless is lost on the Soothing Textured Green Egg as it splits three ways from seventh-day and is crunched to death beneath a hatchling. Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling Muscles shuddering like whitecaps across a storm whipped sea, this blue enters the break of day of his new life with fervor. Red-soaked purple blazes out against a frothy blue hide. Pacifism is lost against the overpowering rawness of nature, shades of shipfish-grey welling up around the white peaks that coil about his springy muscles. No sunlight shines on his features, set in a line of grim determination from first breath. While possessing proud beauty in his physique, this blue bears none in his carriage as he tumbles calmly across the sands. Sturdy wings, drenched in rich cobalt, flicker with shades of dusty green. Veins painted with the white froth of the storm are blurred by the browns and greens ripped up from the ocean's depths. While a proud blue, he is ignorant of his physical beauty; dedicated to his life, his work, and the one he is looking for. Braedon lets the tears of happiness stream down his face. He watches Kestra and her lifemate for a moment and then turns to regard the newest hatchling. Tika winces at the click sound. "Oops..." then "Blue! Oh, he's a handsome one!" Wise Mountain Mist Egg jolts to the side once, as if moved from within by its impatient occupant. The hairline cracks widen, turning into fissures as the egg begins to pulse outward, deformed by the forces working inside it. Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling leaps out of his egg with a tinny bugel. HAH! That was the way out! Wings out streached, the blue leaps a little bit. Much better. He's got room out here to play in. Benkin stumbles backwards as Kestra Impresses so close to him, one of the few he's seen so closely. Confusion takes over until he gains a stable footing again, one on a slight rise, the other dropped lower so he is slightly askance. Raina gasps "A blue, wonderful.." Siara smiles again, as her own lifemate lets loose a bugle at the appearance of another blue. Tristram reaches out a hand to steady Benkin. "Easy, there." He looks around. "Hey, look, another blue." Subdued Coral Speckled Green Hatchling stops suddenly, her attention drawn by one of the candidates a little down the line from her. She moves closer to Benkin, watching for a curious moment. Then she tilts her head, trying to make him appear straighter. Malan smiles at the blue, "He's a lively one." Myklan idly brushes his sweat-plastered hair out of his eyes, watching as the others Impress around him. The appearance of a little blue makes him look up, somewhere between curious and not. Maybe that's hope on his features, maybe not. Macami takes a step away from Sarai, smiling widely at the emergence of the blue hatchling. If only she could see all things clearly and not so blurry. Tristram hisses at the boy, "Benkin! She's looking at you!" Sarai skips back, almost falling over the hem of hre dress. Dratted dress, "Next time I'm wearing /pants/. I don't care what people say," complains the young goldrider. Braedon grins through his tears at Benkin. "Look." Lyria smiles at Sarai, "Or you could stand still." Benkin turns his head and comes eye to eye with the Hatchling, making the first sound in a long time, startly, "Augh!" Like the green so nearby, Bailey stops smiling after Kestra to turn half around, eyeing Benkin, her eyes once again wide, "Could it be?" she wonders, not aware her thoughts have escaped her lips. Laila pats Ordoneth's head lightly as she feeds him. "Silly. You'll hardly starve. Just don't stuff yourself." Tika giggles, eyes head turning from the blue to the green. "Benkin?" she murmers, somehow amused by this. Feriam gazes appreciatively at the newborn blue for a moment before watching further back. Didn't there move something? Tivuketh leans forward eagerly to watch his children. So spirited! He whuffles loudly, to celebrate, to urge onwards, to let the world know about the grand events of the day. The enthusiasm of his lifemate seems to influence him or maybe it's the other way round. Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling looks at his parents. UP at his parents. Tivuketh and Cyrath get another little bugel, remarkably high pitched. As if embarressed by this, the blue repeats his bugel, finding a better tenor tone to toot at. Malan grips Raina's hand again, watching the blue and the green with a smile. Raina smiles over at Malan, wiping her forhead.. Tika smiles at the blue. "Oh, he's too cute!" Sarai smirks at Lyria, "With Cami clinging to me like a drowning feline?" Subdued Coral Speckled Green Hatchling blinks at the hiss, eyeing Tristram in surprise. She huffs and starts to turn away from the two. She plows to a stop in a skirl of sand in front of someone quite close to them. She releases a joyful trill, stretching her head up to make very certain her chosen sees her! Lyria chuckles, "Just stand firm." She winks. The Subdued Coral Speckled Green Hatchling gazes into Braedon's eyes. Myklan gives his leg a sudden comical jerk, dashing sand out from between his toes as it's crept in when a ridge of sand gave way to gravity and buried his sandaled foot. Macami wanted to tell Sarai something, just in time to hear her words. "Oh you..." she murmurs and turns her back on the goldrider. Benkin regains an even footing quickly, reaching out for Tristram's nearby arm. He looks relatively relieved that the green actually passed him by. Tika yays at another impression. "Braedon! Congrats!" Malan grins, "Good going, Braedon." Sarai looks at Macami, "Not that I don't MIND it, but it does things to ones ballance..." Nice catch Sarai, really. You should be a harper. Not. Br'don drops to his knees and gazes into her eyes, tears falling freely. "Halimedath." He murmurs softly. Raina gasps "Breadon..." Br'don helps Halimedath to a better spot. Tristram lets out his breath in a startled, "ooof!" as he is scrutinized by the green, then sucks in another breath as she turns away from both him and Benkin. He pats Benkin's hand on his arm absently. Myklan breaks into an odd smile at Br'don, stepping back a little to give him and his lifemate room. Tika repeats. "Halimedath..." she smiles. J'on laughs again, shaking his head - not in denial, but humor. "I wonder if they'll be in the same wing.." Wise Mountain Mist Egg rumbles, starting to roll from side to side as the prisoner within grows more insistent. Hey, let me out of here! Siara smiles as she approaches Br'don and the Halimedath, "She's a pretty one!" she says to him as she guides them towards the barracks. Feriam tilts his head as he hears another Dragon name being spoken. He takes a few steps to the side to find out who the lucky one is. "Braedon" He cheers, then turns his attention back on the eggs still rocking and hatchlings still flitting about. Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling turns around to look at the sands. Now wait, he's not supposed to be looking at mom and dad. He's supposed to be finding someone. Something. Food? Well there is that. But there's something else he's missing. Like why all those white-clad people are standing around him. Lookit! Br'don nervously strokes her eyeridge, still weeping softly. He turns to smile at the other candidates as he leads Halimedath away. Br'don strides into the Weyrlings Barracks. Rippling across the shell of the Wise Mountain Mist Egg, gentle greys obfuscate the feathery greens. Mystery colors the browns, as the egg settles in it's sand pocket. K'tel tries, "Hali...Haliem..." He frowns, "Ha-lim-e-dath. Faranth! I'll never remember that." At the perfect moment, the smudges of black across the Wise Moutain Mist Egg take flight as their mountainous background shatters. Malan hears K'tel and grins at him. Desolate School of Fish Green Hatchling Murky depths, colored by fauna both alive and dying, are stirred from their stupor by the wake of a passing school of fish. Ripples from their passing churn the desolate greens, echoed in the sinuous musculature of this lithe hatchling. The sun-forsaken patterns of water give her a deep hue are all the more drastic when matched with the flashy silver that races over her neckridges, along the drape of her dragging tail, and amidst the darker havens of her under-wings. Slippery glints of that silver is glimpsed, paired with flecks of yellow and blue, over draconic skin in a pearled, synchronous dance. At every breath the lightness flares anew; silvery whirls like marbled cracks on her murky hide. Near translucent wings, held back in proud posture, lets this leader of her pack constrain her power behind grace and liquid fluidity. Macami seems to have forgotten everything Sarai said when the green Impresses Br'don. "By Faranth, what will Kyli say!" And there she goes again, clinging to Sarai again, clinging to Sarai's arm. "Laila won't have to worry now," Bailey voices, eyeing Benkin to see how he's taking the green's sudden deviation from him. Finding him alright, her gaze turns forward to watch the cobalt blue as he figures out his purpose here on the sands. Sarai sighs, giving Lyria a long suffering look, before patting Macami with her free arm, "Eosith is probably plotting his conquest right now." Tika turns her attention back to the blue hatchling. "Hello lirrle one, go and find your lifemate now..." she suddenly realizes she has started to chatter to it, and shuts up, then ohs as abouther green hatches. Malan looks at the green with a smile, "She's got neat colors." Raina nods, agreeing, still doing her hop, hop dance. Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling chatters down the line, looking up at he candidates one at a time. None of you. He skips down the line and stops at a small, mercurial boy. And knocks the boy over with an exuberant butt of his head. No! The boy is left as the blue continues down his line. Tristram looks back and forth between everything. He can't keep his gaze in one spot, and his feet neither, as he shifts back and forth on the hot sands. Leya bends down to scratch her knee again...nervously. She straightens, her hand moving up to brush at her forehead. "It didn't seem this hot in here at egg touchings" she says, laughing. Desolate School of Fish Green Hatchling shakes off the bits of shell that cling to her hide, shuddering as she spreads her wings wide to greet the world with a joyous trill! Her faceted eyes swirl rapidly as she scans the scene before her, bright and curious. Hmmmm, what's this? So many people to greet her! Benkin moves slightly away from Tristram to slip a hand into one of Bailey's free ones as the dragons and eggs become fewer and fewer upon the sands. Feriam rejoins Malan and Raina as the final Impressions are about to be made. Tika watches the blue making his examinations, a grin still on her face; so many of her friends impressed! She looks at the green too... Tristram also moves, over closer to Tika, smiling at the girl's enthusiasm. Myklan finds himself standing away from the group, and yet again merges into the pack, unintentionally hovering over them. Macami tries another tactic now. She slips her arm around Sarai's waist. She clutches there too, but it's easier. "Another green," she sings. "My Tivu does beautful greens." Tivuketh warbles. Of course! Malan smiles at Feriam. Bailey glances back to offer Benkin a smile as his hand finds hers, but her eyes are riveted forward, wondering to who the hatchlings will look for bond and sustenance of a more material sort. Two more bronzes hatch. One starts wandering, dragging his wings in the sand while he inspects candidates. The other only takes a few steps, looking into the eyes of a younger lad from Benden hold. The first finally decides on a dark haired young man standing away from a larger group of boys. Desolate School of Fish Green Hatchling takes a few tenative steps forward, the motion of her eyes slowing a bit as she surveys the selection before her. Only one can be her lifemate forever. Who will it be? Taking a deep breath, she strides forth with a purposeful waddle, summoning up her dignity behind her. Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling barrels down the line, heading right for a tall tree-trunk type of Telgari lad. The blue is caught up in his own storm, plowing through the sand right at Myklan. Without stopping, the cobalt fellow hits Myklan full force, talons and wingspars all pointed out and at the poor candidate. But does the blue stop? No, he doesn't even look at Myklan. It's as if the boy was just in his way. Raina gasps! Oh no! Malan blinks, "Ouch. Myklan? Are you ok?" J'on's eyes widen, but it's already too late. Still he yells "Mykkie! Dodge!" Feriam gasps at the accident and runs over to help Myklan get back ot his feet. "You allright?" Leya stares, her mouth dropping over "Myklan!" she chokes out. "Is he alright" she asks, breathlessly, leaning forward and trying to peer around another candidate. Sarai reflexivly HUGS Cami as Myklan gets plowed into, "Oh Faranth! Myklan!" Bailey's mouth falls open as she stares over at where Myklan just met with more dragonet than he could manage, watching for movement as her chest stills, her breathing suspended. Macami very suddenly lets go of Sarai. "Sarai, look, the blue will run over...Mykkie!" She cries out in an anguished voice. Myklan looks positively too startled to realize he's been injured, even as he finds himself sprawled into the sands and pinking, then redding, around the sudden gashes in his robe. It's only after he's hit the sand that he makes the slightest sound. And that's only a shrill 'eek'. Siara's hand goes to her mouth and she winces, gazing at Myklan, before another weyrling pair, the dragonet creeling with hunger, demand her attention Tika gasps. "Oh! Myklan!" she starts to run over to him, then glances around, completely at a loss. "Oh, is he alright??" Tristram jerks as he watches hatchling and candidate collide. "Shells, they move fast," he murmurs. "You alright?" he calls, worried with everyone else. Lyria wrinkles her nose and starts to move towards the young man, "Shards and shells..." Celie winces, moving forward instinctively as Myklan is raked from head to toe. Macami accepts Sarai's hugs willingly enough, though she seems to want to run towards Myklan. "Oh no!" She starts sobbing again, crossing from one emotion to the next easily. J'on swears even as he's running, dropping to his knees by the wounded candidate's side. "No, he's not all right. ALVAR!" Sand slips from under his feet as he drops down. K'tel takes a step forward, stopping abruptly as he's way too late to do anything. Myklan blinks down at one long gash in his leg...then peers up at the first face his eyes come into contact with. "I uh...don't feel very good." Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling doesn't even look back, having continued right past Myklan. What's the fuss? He was in the way! When a dragon is charging you MOVE. Of course no one was expecting him to move that fast. Feriam tears a stripe off his robe and presses it against Myklans leg "Hold still!" Raina blinks at the long gash rooted to the spot she stands on. Katany says, calm and crisp and pitched to carry, "J'on, would you please get Myklan to the infirmary? You can go through the barracks. The rest of you Candidates, back away from him and .pay attention. to the dragonets -- unless you want to end up in the same state." Lyria stops as J'on reaches the boy. Suddenly realizing she's out in the middle, she bids a hasty retreat back to Sarai, muttering, "J'on has him." Tristram watches the blue very warily now, having evidence of the speed that hatchlings can move. Tika dodges out of the path of the blue, and slips and just /sits/ down in the sand. He's bleeding! Tears start to fall down her face. J'on says "Feriam, watch out yourself, watch for your dragon. I've got him." He orders the candidate with the practice of several long sevendays. "Mykkie! Ah, shells." Kestra blanches. "Oh, shards," she whispers. Hargroth's hunger pulls her back, but some of her joy is gone, now. Raina gives a paniced look to Tika. Myklan's eyes try for a moment, to keep J'on's, before they unfocus and roll skywards without him. Sarai lets go ov Cami with one hand to hold it out to Lyria. "There there. it'll be okay... Everyone calm down. People get gored." Occasionally. Desolate School of Fish Green Hatchling swivels her head on its sinuous neck toward the ruckus, cocking it ever so slightly in a curious gesture. She bugles at her blue brother then as if to say, 'Now what did you do /that/ for?'. Then, with a gesture almost reminiscent of a shrug, she presses on, heading along in the aftermath of the blue's handiwork, searching for the special person. Malan motions to Tika, "Stand up. Watch out or you'll get run over." Feriam nods, gets up hesitantly and walks almost aimlessly back to the center of the sands. The Weyrwoman's words snap Leya's attention back to the hatchlings...so many to keep her eyes on... J'on scoops Myklan up without further words. Raina thinks it's time for her to edge her way over to the exit..and she moves in that direction. Laila swallows, murmuring, "He was bleeding." Lyria nods, "Oh, he'll be okay with J'on. Those scratches bleed a lot." Tristram helps Tika to her feet, hissing at the girl, "Watch out, Tika! What if he runs /your/ way?!?!" Feriam has his eyes locked on the shards all around him, shock of what happened to a fellow candidate written clearly over his face. Macami frees herself to move over to another object of affection. "Oh Lyria, did you see poor Myklan?" Maybe her hug here will be more freely accepted. Tika scrambles to her feet, breathing in and out, watching everything around her carefully now.. she begins to back away, slowly. K'tel nods, watching J'on and Myklan. He lets out a sigh then glances back at Katany, echoing Lyria's words, "He should be okay." He's moving, he's breathing, he was making noise. These things, and these alone, reassure Bailey. Eyes shift hurriedly trying to locate the cobalt blue, best to be on alert. Raina gives Feriam a "Get out of the way' look. Br'don looks at his sister as Halimedath croons encouragingly. She wants to eat still. Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling stops running and /looks/. Hey. GIRLS. This isn't so bad. Trotting past one in a little stutter step, the cobalt blue starts looking more than speeding. Hmmm, J'on starts to get to his feet and almost slips with the tall candidate. He takes a deep breath, focuses, then picks up the Telgari in a fireman's carry. Pressing as best he can on the leg vein, he hurries toward the barracks. Malan watches the remaining dragonets warily, ready to jump. Then he turns to Raina, "Wait?" J'on strides into the Weyrlings Barracks. Laila nods to R'vyl, a slight smile on her face. She turns to Ordoneth, as if He's said something. "I'm worried." Lyria gives Macami a hug with a smile, "Haven't lost one yet, knock, ah, sand." She pats the sand with her foot. Tika tenses and stops, watching the blue warrily. Tristram murmurs to Tika, "Watch him...." Feriam looks up, and jerks together almost simultaneously as he regains consciousness of where he is. He gives Raina an apologetic stare and hurries to get out of the way of the speeding dragonets. Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling stops completly and looks up. YES. Smaller than that boy he gored, for sure. And boyish. But this one, yeah! Raina sighs with relief, eyeing that blue. Malan reaches for Raina's hand again. The Stormy Daybreak Cobalt Blue Hatchling gazes into Bailey's eyes. Desolate School of Fish Green Hatchling approaches the little knot of white-robe pink things standing off to one side, the whirling of her eyes becoming more speculative. Her steps are slow, then quick, then slow again, almost as if she's being tugged along by an invisible string. Somewhere in here...she can almost taste it... Macami clings to Lyria with relief in her voice. "You're right. And we're doing good too. Look, that ferocious blue Impressed Sarai's half- sister!" Leya cheers, though it's more subdued now that someone's been hurt. "Bailey! Bailey Impressed!" Siara lets out a sigh of relief as the blue makes his choice without any further damage, and begins to pick her way carefully to the new pair. Katany says, firmly, "He will certainly be fine." And then, smiling, "Bailey. She will keep that blue in line." Lyria grins faintly, "Hmmm, some things run in the family." Tristram blinks as the blue Impresses. "Shells, wow." Can't summon up more than that. He looks back over to where the green is, watching her warily as well. Benkin's hand slips away from Bailey's naturally as the blue approaches the girl. It appears that the boy has actually formed a slight discomfort to the scenes of the Sands. K'tel looks back, a smile reappears, "Oh, she certainly will." Sarai looks over Macami and Lyria's heads to STARE at the blue, "By all that's....Bailey?" Muttered afterwards is a prayer that J'cob isn't going to think of this as an excuse to catch up for lost time. Tika sighs in relief; it stopped. She offers a smile to Bailey. "Congradulations..." she breaths, then looks around for the remaining dragonettes, careful now. Macami nods and suddenly looks up to the ledges. "I wonder if my cousins are watching us here. My favorite cousin is Sr. Weyrwoman at Telgar, you know." She rests her head against Lyria's shoulder as slowly the hatching seems to near its end. Bailey finds him. In front of her. Eyes fly wide as wide can be, as Benkin's hand is lost although she can't put a finger on when, she just stares into eyes opposite her own, "Samath?" Bailey helps Samath to a better spot. K'tel nods, relaxing as he watches the new pair, "Now that is a much easier name. Samath." Malan watches Bailey and Samath, then turns to keep a sharp eye out for the remaining dragonets. Sarai looks after her sister, positvly torn between being delighted, horrified, and scared. She settles for hugging Macami and Lyria. Desolate School of Fish Green Hatchling stops, head perking up as some inner sensation runs through her. She extends her wings, tail twitching as happiness tinges the swirling colors of her eyes. Here! Right here! She turns her head to survey the knotted little group before her... Together, Bailey and Samath have grown oblivious to all the chaos surrounding them, and make their way with Siara to get the young blue fed. Bailey strides into the Weyrlings Barracks. Macami smiles. "Samath. Sam. Easy to remember." She arches her brows as Sarai hugs her and Lyria, but happily returns it. Katany says "I do like that green." Katany says "She has character." Lyria hugs both progenitorial riders. Tika's eyes are focused on the green now; only the green... K'tel quits watching Samath and Bailey to watch the green, "Don't they all?" Desolate School of Fish Green Hatchling starts to hum, an almost contemplative sound as she looks each one up and down. No, not that one. A little twitch of her head. Not that one, either. Which one? A small creel eminates from her throat. Wait! There he is! Feriam looks at the dwindling chances and pats Malan encouragingly on his back "In a way, I've already found my lifemate. I am happy for everyone who impressed today." Tristram watches the green, shifting back and forth on the hot sands. Malan looks at Feriam, then smiles, "Yeah, I am happy for them too." Raina smiles and nods to Feriam and whispers one word..."Vaction" she nods knowingly. The Desolate School of Fish Green Hatchling gazes into Tristram's eyes. Malan grins at Raina, "Definitely." Feriam grins at Raina "Definetly." Feriam laughs Raina grins "Wanna come to Boll? There's this girl who serves drinks on the beach..." she teases. Leya bites her lower lip as the green apparantly focuses on one of the boys. She grins, though, as she sees Tristram Impressing. Sarai exhales softly, "Wow." Malan grins at Tristram, "Good going." Feriam smiles "Sure. Good idea! It's been a time since I was down there." Siara catches her breath as the pace finally slows, heading towards the next pairing. Lyria says to Sarai, "What happens if that poor little green doesn't Impress?" Lyria looks back and then grins, "Oh, nevermind." Raina nods "Well, maybe we can hitch a ride with you and your mate" K'tel's brows go up, "Interesting choice." He chuckles, "They should get along famously." T'ram stops shifting suddenly, as his attention is focused on the green in front of him. How did she get there? No matter, now, as he drops to his knees, emotions playing over his face fast and furious. Finally he regains his voice, and he calls out, "Ginabeth!" Macami sees the green Impress to Tristram and gulps visibly. "Can it be, it is over?" She blinks and looks over the sands. Tika sighs as the last hatchlings impress, then grins around at everyone. "Wow!" she lguhs. "Congrats!" she looks around her again, not certain what to do next. Celie is wiping at her cheeks furiously with her little handkerchief, somehow unable to contain her emotions at this point. Sarai looks at Lyria, astonished, "I think they die! Don't say that!" Sarai stops and looks at Tristram, "Oh...My." Siara makes her way to T'ram, and can't help grinning at him, "I think Ranth and I like this pairing." as she guides them to the barracks. Feriam nods to Raina and Malan "Well, I figure it's time to gather our bit and move our collective selfs out of the candidate barracks" The very last brown runs off and into a minecraft boy. Malan smiles at Feriam, "Yeah, maybe we could get a ride." K'tel snorts at Siara's comment then looks around the sands, "That was quick." Lyria says without a lot of regret, "Oh." Then she chuckles, "That'll be interesting." Macami smiles gently. "Nobody died. They had wonderful hatchlings, Sarai. I'm very happy." T'ram helps Ginabeth to a better spot. Leya stares at the egg shards that are all that's left of the eggs, sighs, then gives a sad smile to the other candidates that were left standing on the sands as she blinks away the tears of disappointment. Raina grins "I'm not sure Davidson is up for a long treck T'ram strides into the Weyrlings Barracks. Feriam walks off the sands with a passive impression, neither looking left nor right. Raina is actually smile, obvously happy this is all over.." Sarai looks at the sands as the last fellows impress. "No one died, cept poor Mykkie almost did...Shells, Samath...Bailey's going to have both hands full. Tika looks up. "Mykkie! Where is he?" Katany lets her breath out, looking around at the shards-covered Sands. Malan grins at Raina, "As nice as that might be, a dragon ride might be better. Raina pulls at Malan "Come on, lets get our stuff together.." she bows to the riders and the dragons, then moves off the sands. Lyria says with relief, "I hate the view from down here." Siara pushes back her hair, looks around at the sands, littered with shells and disappointed candidates, and then swallows, ducking into the barracks after the last pair. Katany turns first to the Stands, voice again pitched to carry. "Thank you all for coming to watch Cyrath's clutch hatch. As always, there will be drinks and food -- a great deal of food -- in the Living Caverns. Please join us in our celebration of the new Igen riders!" Malan lets out a huge sigh, releasing pentup stress as his shoulders loosen. Siara strides into the Weyrlings Barracks. Malan follows Raina, "Um, can we leave yet?" Raina blinks "Oh?" Sarai looks at Lyria, "Next time." but then she clams up to watch the way Katany deals with those who didn't impress. She missed this part. Celie scrubs furiously at her eyes, trying to regain some measure of composure as Katany rounds up the remaining Candidates. Malan nods to Raina, then points to Katany. Katany turns then to those still remaining "You are, all of you, welcome still at Igen. If you choose to leave you will be taken home on the morrow; if you choose to stay please talk to Lyria in the morning." She smiles, a little sad. "We hope you will stay, of course, but understand why you may not wish to." Raina shrugs "Alright, but I hear the beach callin" she moves over to Katany. Tika stares about the sands a moment longer. After a moment she reaches benieth her robe and pulls something out; a shard of an egg on a string. With dignity she sets in on the ground, then heads off the sands. Katany says "And yes, now you can go." K'tel sighs, watching the various reactions. Macami dabs at her eyes with her handkerchief, or rather, Sarai's kerchief. She quietly listens to Katany's speech. Raina nods to Katany, and moves off, heading for her workshop and home. Malan nods, "I'll be staying, Katany, but there's a vacation to take first." Malan follows Raina, then. Raina chuckles, nodding, grey eyes sparkling. Cyrath streches her wings out hesitantly. Sarai looks up, "Well...go Cyrath. Your ledge is all clean." The gold flexes and then ... Cyrath wings up from the sands and out the tunnel into the air of the Bowl. Raina climbs up into the Stands. Tika climbs up into the Stands. Benkin skirts the bit of blood leftover from Myklan's episode. At best the boy looks a bit nauseated as he heads out of the cavern unsteadily. Benkin climbs up into the Stands. Sarai looks after Cyrath and then at Katany, "Oh- I have to- I have to do that thing?" Malan climbs up into the Stands. Katany says "Yes, Sarai." Leya climbs up into the Stands. Katany says "Come up to my weyr with me -- everything you need is there." K'tel hmms, "I want to go see the weyrlings. I'll catch up with you two later." Sarai looks entirely abashed, "Right. I forgot about it." The leggy young woman untangeles herself from Cami and Lyria and heads over to Katany. Tivuketh looks dumbfoundedly as Cyrath disappears. What's he to do now? He croons to Macami and then jumps up. There's a ledge he hasn't seen in a long time. Katany says "We will be back down there shortly." She gives Lyria a distracted smile. "Please take care of the guests; I will be there soon to help." Katany climbs up into the Stands. Sarai climbs up into the Stands. |
