Note: When I was thinking of songs that might suit the character of M'rek, it didn't take me long to think of 'The Cat Came Back'--because if there's ever been a man who defies every attempt to destroy him, it's surely the devil's messenger. Writing this one was just fun! It should be noted however that I took considerable poetic license in it, and none of the assassination attempts (or murders) mentioned have occurred as best I know. It should also be noted that singing this ICly would probably be grounds for death. ;) The lyrics are based on the version of 'The Cat Came Back' that I grew up with; all credit to whichever person or persons originally wrote it.
Old Lord Vorlin had troubles of his own: He had a bronzerider who wouldn't leave his home. He tried and he tried to put the man away, But each time he did, 'Rek came back the next day. Oh, M'rek came back, the very next day. M'rek came back--thought he was a goner, But M'rek came back. He just couldn't stay away, Away, away-yay-yay-yay. He sent for a woman wearing five-inch-tall heels, And offered her one of his murderous deals. They found one boot some ninety miles away-- And where the other is today, I cannot say. But M'rek came back, the very next day. M'rek came back--thought he was a goner, But M'rek came back. He just couldn't stay away, Away, away-yay-yay-yay. He sent for a Holder with a pair of knives; Told him to rid M'rek of one of his lives, And lead the bronzerider to some horrible end-- Now that selfsame Holder is the bronzer's best friend. And M'rek came back, the very next day. M'rek came back--thought he was a goner, But M'rek came back. He just couldn't stay away, Away, away-yay-yay-yay. He sent for a woman who was mad in the head; Told her she'd be Lady if she made M'rek dead. Elinore was willing, so she poisoned his ale-- And why she's not alive today is quite a gruesome tale. And M'rek came back, the very next day. M'rek came back--thought he was a goner, But M'rek came back. He just couldn't stay away, Away, away-yay-yay-yay. Old Lord Vorlin wanted M'rek out of sight, So he shipped him to the drunk tank, and he locked him up tight. When Roddy went to free him, the result did astound, For ninety-seven empties of scotch were all that he found! And M'rek came back, the very next day. M'rek came back--thought he was a goner, But M'rek came back. He just couldn't stay away, Away, away-yay-yay-yay! ---Written by Kassima
